Although CRP is within range, the lower the better as it's an inflammation marker. Does she have any condition that would cause CRP to be at that level? For example, I have lung disease and my CRP is usually at the sort of level your daughter's is. Did she have a cold or any other infection at the time of the test?

Ferritin could be better, half way through range is recommended and some experts say the optimal level for thyroid health is 90-110ug/L. Ferritin also rises with inflammation or infection. It would be a good idea if she could try and raise her ferritin level through diet, eg by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet

She shouldn't consider taking an iron supplement unless she does an iron panel, if she already has a decent level of serum iron and a good saturation percentage then taking iron tablets can push her iron level even higher, too much iron is as bad as too little.

Folate is fine.

Active B12 would be better over 100 (below 70 suggests testing for B12 deficiency). Perhaps consider a good quality, bioavailable B Complex containing methyfolate (not folic acid) and methylcobalamin (not cyanocobalamin).

Vit D would be better higher. The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L, with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health mentioning a study which recommends over 125nmol/L.

To reach the recommended level from her current level, she could supplement with 3,000iu D3 daily and retest after 3 months. When taking D3 there are important cofactors needed - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc. 90-100mcg K2-MK7 is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form, and large doses of D3 can induce depletion of magnesium. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking magnesium as tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.

Don't start all supplements at once. Start with one, give it a week or two and if no adverse reaction then add the next one. Again, wait a week or two and if no adverse reaction add the next one. Continue like this. If you do have any adverse reaction then you will know what caused it.

As for her thyroid results, they are classed as euthyroid (normal). A normal healthy person would have a TSH of no more than 2, often nearer 1, with FT4 around mid-range-ish. Her results fit into this criteria.

I would suggest she optimises her nutrient levels as a first step, give it say 4-5 months and retest everything to see how levels have changed and how she feels.

Vitamins all slightly low

Might benefit from improving to optimal levels

Is she vegetarian or vegan?

TSH not high enough for GP to consider thyroid at this stage

Retest in 2-3 months?

Ft4 is 50% through range

Ft3 is 23% through range

No thyroid antibodies…

Suggest getting ultrasound scan of thyroid
