I posted on here a while ago about getting a thyroid blood test for my 13 year old daughter as she was finding it difficult to concentrate in class. I have Hashimotos so I just wanted to rule it out.
The good news is her results to my eye look ok, but would be grateful for any comments:
TSH - 0.70 (0.27-4.2)
Free thyroxine- 14.4 (12.0-22.0)
Free T3 - 6.0 (3.5-7.7)
Thank you x

I would look to test ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D as a next step, as there seems nothing of concern in her current thyroid test. Could your daughter’s tiredness be linked to puberty/ menstrual cycle?
I had some tests done for her very recently on the NHS:
Vitamin D - 48 (30-250)
Folate - 12.4 (3.00-20.00)
Serum iron - 22.1 (11.00-30.00)
Serum ferritin - 39.2 (30-336)
Serum transferrin - 2.9 (1.80-3.60)
Serum B12 - 234 (180-900)
Serum potassium- 3.7 (3.50-5.00)
TSH - 0.64 (0.30-4.20)
Free T4 - 10.9 (10.00-17.00)
To my eye her ferritin looks low but I don’t understand iron tests really and her serum iron level looks more promising particularly as she’s turned vegetarian. Her vitamin D looks low and also B12 & potassium are on the low side. Her T4 looked low to me which is why I had the private test done so I could see the T3.
I'd say her vitamin D is a bit low and it's worth getting an active B12 test done too to compare the two. My bones hurt when my Vit D was 48, which went away after supplementing. Does she have any other symptoms?
Thanks, her only symptoms really are that she finds it difficult to concentrate in class so this could be a number of things and indeed a combination of things. I will seek advice on the vitamin front for now.
Hi Greygoose, yes this was a private test and the requesting doctor certainly knew her age but I’m not sure if the lab knew but I can find out. I didnt get antibodies done. I had a thyroid NHS test done before this and the results prompted me to get a private test done so I could see her T3 levels. These are the results from the NHS test which was done 15th September:
TSH - 0.64 (0.30-4.20)
Free T4 - 10.9 (10-17)
The test was taken at the doctor’s surgery at 9:40am. Her T4 looked on the low side to me which is why I wanted the T3 test as a follow up.
