Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has the feeling of something being stuck in their throat (not after eating)? my doctor said it was psychosomatic.
Does anyone else get this feeling?: Hi, I was... - Thyroid UK
Does anyone else get this feeling?
🙄 your doctor is a moron.
Lots of us here get it.
Are you diagnosed with a thyroid issue?
Hi thanks for replying, yes i've been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism since 2004 but this is a recent (past 2 years ish) thing.
Welcome to the forum
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
What are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results
Doctor thinks it’s globus hystericus
medicalnewstoday.com/articl...
But can be genuine when under medicated as thyroid is tight and uncomfortable
Im on 225mg levo my doctor only tests the TSH levels which were way out last time around 11 but that was my own fault missed a few doses, when i get low i get in to the cycle of what is the point in taking them
Recommend you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done after minimum of 8 weeks on constant unchanging dose and brand of levothyroxine
Which brand of levothyroxine do you normally get
Do you always get same brand at each prescription
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
It can take weeks/months to recover from skipping doses of levothyroxine and will reduce vitamin levels too
Are you lactose intolerant that you’re on relatively high dose levothyroxine
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Low vitamin levels common as we get older too
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi Staffiemum83,
Are you a vegetarian or vegan?
I'm asking as I have this sensation in my throat and only recently found I am iodine deficient.
I'm currently not on any thyroid hormones and am undiagnosed.
My son had this feeling when he was 8 years old, he was adamant there was something in his throat especially after eating. He got so wound up about it he started to eat less and less and this went on for months to the point of my total despair.
I thought it was all in his mind and while waiting for a mental health referral the GP suggested we try acid reflux medication. Well, within days of starting lansoprazole, it had gone.
Just thought I'd mention it, in case it's the same for you.
Yes i've got it right now as i've just eaten some toast..
linking with PinkPixie's comment for those of us who are hypothyroid low stomach acid is common and can I believe cause this symptom. Your poor son and you, it must be very worrying seeing him not eating. Some people recommend drinking cider vinegar in water before or after a meal to help, but that's very bad for the teeth. I take enzymes and there's HCI, or is it HCL? Someone will tell you. Anxiety can cause that feeling too.
