Proposed fluoridation of water in UK

Saw this article yesterday – fluoride is a goitrogen and has damaging effects for those of us who are hypothyroid. The government seems set on making fluoridation easier to introduce, but ultimate decisions will be made at local level, so it is definitely something to be aware of in your area and to campaign on if necessary:

I was under the impression that fluoride was already added to water supplies?

Yes it is in some areas but not all. Birmingham was the first place to have flouride added to water in the 1960s (I was born and brought up in Birmingham, left in the mid 1980s). I now live in North Wales and our water is not flouridated, hopefully to stay that way!

Thanks for posting . As we can buy flouride toothpaste now, we definitely don't need it put into our drinking water.

I don't think we'd know immediately about permanently drinking/cooking with it everywhere in the UK.

We can buy folic acid, but ‘they’ still want to put it in our flour.

But people don't buy and take folic acid in sufficient numbers to avoid neural tube issues.

Sort that out and I suspect no-one would want to fortify flour.

How about just making sure that the women who need it take it? It can mask B12 deficiency, which can be life threatening. Women are advised to take folic acid before and during pregnancy, whether they do or not is their choice.

How?

What has been done so far doesn't appear to have worked.
