Can someone comment on results please and does my liver need a detox?

Hi

I have hashimotos and am on 1.5 grains per day NDT. Noticed I had really bad brain fog and trying to understand if it is menopausal symptoms or too low a NDT dose. I am 52 and periods are still regular. Turns out my Vit D was very low. Have started supplementing again as I had let it fall away.

My B12 was also way over the scale at 150 pmol/l. The Medichecks scale states anything >37 is over. The thing is I do not supplement B vitamins at all. Why would it be high? Liver? In which case do I need to detox? Any recommendations how to do this please.

My ferritin has also gone up to 111ug/l (13 to 150ug/l). Again, no supplementing and this is the highest it has been in years, even when I did supplement. What would cause that increase? My hair is still dry and frizzy, just perhaps not falling out so much. Energy levels okay, but sleep not great.

Have recently developed psoriasis on my shins, eugh! Have a lot on at work, do could also be stress.

Looking for answers, as always.

M

Hi Mb088

My B12 came in way over range despite no supplements. It worried me initially. I would advise you speak to your GP to put your mind at rest. I did, and also spoke to my Endo. Both were unconcerned but it’s good to get it checked out.

Thank you. What concerned you? Meaning, what did you think the issue could be?

I thought maybe I had rheumatoid arthritis…I think it can be linked to that. I was in a lot of pain at the time but then I wasn’t well medicated. Pain has pretty much gone now. GP pointed out that I’d been tested for RA and it had come back negative. I do eat a low carb diet with a lot of meat so I’ve put it down to that 😊

It looks like your t3 is over range. I wonder if you have thought about dropping some NDT and adding a bit of levo? Just a thought. Some people find that they need their t4 higher in the range as well as t3.

Thanks. Hadn't ever thought about that option. How would you tweak?

I am not really the best to advise you as I have not tried NDT. I would do another post asking others to advise.

Are you still on thyroid s? That’s 38mcg t4 and 9mcg t3?

Have you ever tried synthetic? Levothyroxine I mean?

I think the best way forward is to look and your blood tests and work out what dose you were on to get a higher but not over range t3. If you are a poor converter it is likely that if you add some levo to that dose it won’t take you over range for t3 but it will be trial and error.

I wonder if you other issues are because you’ve gone over and haven’t found the correct combo of both frees that suit you. Some people do well on t3 only. Some are ok on t4. But some need higher t4 and t3.

If you post I’m sure you will get some advice from people that are far more knowledgeable than me 😊

Can you please post a picture of your B12 result? You can add a picture in a reply.

Medichecks do not say >37 is over. That means that your result needs to be over 37.5 as that is the start of the range, anything below 37.5 is in the red part and below range.

Medichecks Active B12 range is normally 37.5-188 - see here:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Are you looking at the coloured bar graph? If so then the green part is the reference range and as long as your level comes within the green part you are not over range.

Hi Yes, the range was actually (25.1 - 165). Mine is 256.

I have attached the image.

Thanks

That is nothing like what you said originally. You said
