I’ve just had my latest results through from Monitor my Health and I was wondering If anyone could shine a light on them for me please?
I’m still waiting for my vitamin results from my GP. But I’ll post them as soon as they arrive.
I have Hashimotos and am gluten free, vegetarian ( not vegan)
I’m having trouble with very dry eyes but only at night. Not sure if this is something to do with my thyroid or not. I’m still having trouble losing weight too. I do yoga and walk every day.
I’d be so grateful if anybody give can give me any advice .
Thanks in advance xx

Can we assume that you followed the testing protocol that we advise? Last dose of Levo 24 hours before the test, water only, no biotin/B Complex?
If so then your conversion of T4 to T3 is poor with an over range FT4 needed to produce a measley 43.2% through range FT3 .
The first thing to do is look at your vitamin results when you have them, these need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work properly and good conversion to take place. You'll be looking for
Vit D - 100-150nmol
B12 - top of range for Total B12 (minimum 550pg/ml but ideally around 900pg/ml but if unit of measurement is pmol we can conbeet it to pg/ml).
Folate - af least half way through range
Ferritin - some experts say the optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/l.
Yes I followed all that you’d advised. I had gone down from 125mcg to 100mcg a week before, would that have anything to do with my conversion. I went back down because my heart rate was going crazy and I just feel terrible.
But I will say that I’d only been trying 125mcg for a couple of weeks.
So you tested only about a week after reducing dose? You should have waited 6-8 weeks after dose change. Your results aren't reflecting what 100mcg achieves. The FT4 is probably over range due to the 2 weeks of 125mcg, it might only be two weeks but it will have made a difference.
I’m having trouble with very dry eyes but only at night. Not sure if this is something to do with my thyroid or not.
Dry eyes could be caused by thyroid problems. Or it could be an autoimmune issue other than autoimmune thyroid disease. Or it could be some other problem.
For example, Sjogren's Syndrome causes dry eyes, and you could theoretically have that in addition to Hashimoto's or Ord's Thyroiditis.
Both forms of autoimmune Thyroiditis and Sjogren's can damage moisture-producing tissues in the body. This could lead to dry eyes / nose / mouth / ears. Also, reduced stomach acid, reduced moisture in joints leading to arthritic-type symptoms. Skin and hair will often end up extremely dry. The skin on knees and elbows could end up very dry. I don't think I've ever read any complaints of someone with established thyroid disease having greasy hair.
The best eye drops are those with no preservatives. A lot of people don't tolerate the ones with preservatives.
The ones I use are Hycosan Extra. My husband, whose dry eyes are very bad at night, uses an ointment rather than drops - either Hylo Night or Hycosan Night.
thanks for your reply. I did think about that it might be that my eyes aren’t shutting at night.
I take Thorne Basic B Complex and Vegavero Vitamin D3 K2 . But I’ve been taking these now for months and I’ve just had my bloods back and it says my ferritin levels have gone down since last time and my folate is quite high. Do you know why that would be?
Ferritin is storage form of iron (nothing to do with B vitamins)
Remember to stop taking vitamin B complex 3-5 days before all blood tests as it contains biotin and biotin can falsely affect test results
Reducing dose levothyroxine frequently results in vitamin levels dropping
How low was ferritin
Look at increasing iron rich foods in your diet
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
hi happybadger, I won’t comment on your results as the other members are far more knowledgeable than me! 🙏 But as for your symptoms - could they be in part connected to perimenopause? I’ve read even tinnitus can be linked. Also dry eyes. I’m definitely perimenopausal at 44, the trouble is a lot of symptoms are very similar to those of thyroid issues! For nighttime dry eyes I use Optrex night restore drops and they seem to help. Also using a nasal spray less (for my dust allergy) which seems to stop them drying out as much. Wishing you good luck and good health x
you’re welcome, so much to consider isn’t there! I’m pretty regular too but apparently symptoms of perimenopause can start 10 years before menopause, oh joy! 😄 take care x
