Hello,

Has anyone found higher than normal dosing of b1 was useful with hypothyroid fatigue?

There seems to be v small amounts of research around b1, fatigue and auto immune conditions, does anyone have more insight?

I noticed Thorne basic b has more b1 than most and Wentz seems to advocate for it.

Thank you, I was asking more about research around it and hypothyroidism, or experiences where it helped.

Oh sorry. I can’t help with that and thyroid. However there are a lot of Parkinson’s sufferers who take large dose thiamine and feel it helps their neurological condition so it would make you think that it helps with thyroid symptoms like brain fog at the very least. I haven’t looked into it for other conditions I’m afraid.

I’ve seen that, and I’m so glad it helps your husband.

Thorne basic b has 110 (mcg?). I’ve started to try a single 100 on top of my b complex which has much less.

Some of the symptoms I’ve been struggling with are peripheral neuropathy and what to me feels like overly dilated blood vessels in fingers and toes which I’ve just read can be a symptom of b1 deficiency.

It could well be peri menopausally related though.

Thank you for that link. It is very interesting. I seem to shut off to thyroid when looking at things for Parkinson’s as it sooo complex and the amount of supplements that can be taken are massive. I have found it difficult to do both at the same time.

I may well give it a go as the burning feet is a real issue for me but I have a number of things that I think are perimenopausal too.

Thanks so much Haggisplant.

I take 100 mcg B1 per day in addition to a B Complex and I think it helps a little bit.

But I have never tried taking the massive levels (500mcg - 600mcg per day, if I remember correctly) that Izabella Wentz suggests.

I have thought of trying such large doses, but have never done so yet - perhaps I should give it a try.

Thanks human, I’m going to give it ago. The more I read about wet beri the more i do wonder if I’ve got some early manifestations. Ivestruggled with fatigue for many years now too. Could be peri but doesn’t all fit

Anyone with a diet which includes a lot of sugar and/or carbs, or who drinks alcohol, will have a greater need for thiamine than someone whose sugar and carb intake is low or moderate, and who doesn't drink (or doesn't drink very often).

Thiamine is required for metabolizing both sugar and alcohol, and if/when B1 runs out it causes brain damage. Since I've been a sugar addict for a long time I went through a phase of reading a lot about it, although not so much in recent years.

If you want published research you should search these sites :

scholar.google.co.uk/schhp?...

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/

and for scientific news on thiamine :

Hmm thank you, I have been a sugar addict at times. I also read tannins affect absorption; I drink rooibos tea all day and gave the odd bit of 70/80 % chocolate. (Santity for toddlers during pandemic.)
