I don't know what the guidelines say but I know it can be taken in doses of 100mg per day, which is 9091% of the recommended daily intake. Holland & Barrett and several other companies sell a B Complex with 100mg of almost all the B vitamins.

In my book, those 50 and 100 supplements rely on a happenstance of our measuring and counting systems. They might be more soundly based if they were calculated as a percentage of RDA (or some other standard).

100 milligrams of B6 can cause some people severe problems - even as a single dose, let alone repeatedly.

There are some multi-B products that have a much sounder basis for their formulation.

However, B1 does seem to be one that even very high doses are well-tolerated (at least in most people - there can always be the odd person who doesn't).

Thank you helvella I will keep the B6 in mind when I am looking for them, and check out the multi B vitamins

I wasn't aware that a single large dose of B6 could cause some people problems. Thanks for the info. I agree with you about the high dose B Complex tablets. But all I was trying to point out in my answer is that people do take that much B1 and live to tell the tale.

I tried to acknowledge that. :-)

Thank you for your reply, I already take vitamin C and zinc, but suffer badly with muscle weakness in my legs and thought if I take the Bs that at least may help, I will look in Holland Barrett

Muscle weakness can be due to low vit D. Have you had that tested, Most hypos are low. And if you're taking vit D and zinc, you should also be taking magnesium and vit K2. They all work together. Most people are low in magnesium and that can cause all sorts of problems, aches and pains.

Oh, sorry, got my wires crossed there. :) But you could still be low in vit D, a lot of people are. Best to get it tested.

Not what you're looking for?
