How much thyroid hormone do you take?

I'm curious to know how much T4/T3 other members take to feel well.

I know it takes time to work up to the right dosage for you. Over the past 10 months, I've very slowly titrated up from 1/8 grain to 1/2 grain of NDT (NP Thyroid). I felt really good for a few months but now feel pretty awful, and I understand 1/2 grain is a starter dose, but I'm having trouble convincing my GP to prescribe more.

How many grains of NDT was right for you? Or if you are on levo/lio, what do you take? How long did it take you to figure out the right dose?

I’m currently on 2 grains of Armour and my thyroid hormone labs are finally at the top of the range. 21yo male.

It’s taken me 6 months to get up to 2 grains since my doctor was stubborn and made me go up slow.

Hi Cam It really varies, depending on your weight, legacy thyroid function, climate (hot cold) and activity levels. I'm a 185cm 90kg 56y active male and I use 60-90mg a day. Some days I feel a little hyper and I drop back to 45mg or even 30mg. Then occasionally I pop a 50mcg Levo on top of the NDT. It helps with cold feet particularity at night. I also find Levo makes me put on weight, so I try and stay away from it mostly. You may have to privately purchase extra WP Thyroid or similar <edited by Admin>. Then use your positive and negative symptoms to drive daily dosage. Myself - I couldn't just take the same dose day in day out - it's just not how my body works. I assess things about 3 times a day and top up as needed. I figure NDT is a little like insulin for a diabetic - test continually and take what is needed every few hours . And a TSH annual blood test completely fails on this front. Also when you re correctly dosed you will have a TSH close to 0 and GP's hate this for some reason.

Please do not name sources where prescription only items can be bought without prescription, this is contravening forum guidelines:

26. Do not post advertisements, links or information of any sort whatsoever, on where or how to obtain UK prescription only medications without prescription. This includes online pharmacies who issue 'prescriptions' on the basis of the completion of a simple health questionnaire.

I take 5mcg T3 ThyBon Henning twice a day 8hrs apart. I also take 32mcg Levothyroxine twice a day 4hrs apart. I’m 63 and weigh 10st. I feel best I’ve felt in 20 years after introducing T3 and reduced my Levo slightly from 75mcg to 64mcg a day. I can do this easily as I’m on liquid Levothyroxine medication Wockhardt brand. My latest TSH was 1.04 and my T4 and T3 levels are mid way through the range after leaving 16/18hrs from last med ingestion. My vitamins are now all optimal too. I’ve also lost over 4st since starting T3 without even trying. My weight is currently stable.
