Dandruff!

Has anyone else got dandruff of the shins? My legs get very shiny then crack and the skin looks like a million scales. They flake off then it starts again!

Use moisturising shower gel, endless creams but can’t stop it. Tried posting photo on iPhone but no joy even though I have adequate signal.

For many many years. Snake legs😩 The only thing I have found that eases the 'dandruff' is self tanning moisturiser. Don't know why but seems to be something in it. Using Dove at the moment. Use it all year now.

Will try and get some today. Might even cover up some of the bruises, not that I’m likely to ever appear in a mini at 78🤣🤣

Suggest you get full thyroid and vitamin testing done

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

No other medications or supplements taken within 2 hours of levothyroxine

Some like iron, PPI, magnesium vitamin D should be four hours away

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code thyroiduk.org/getting-a-dia...

TSH 0.01. T4 114% through range but T3 only 22% so have sourced T3 privately. Many years a member of this site so all taken according to protocol.

Have you had any other changes recently

Important to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Other than adding in T3 none. B12 just tested, top end of range. Take D3 daily.

My legs have been like that for several years now. I hate it. I used to have nice legs. I'm sure it's the thyroid levels, namely T3, that is causing it. If I get an itchy foot and scratch the outside of the instep or the opposite side of the foot the skin turns into white power and falls off like flour and my finger nails are full of it. It's disgusting! Just increased my T3 dose today. Finger's crossed.

There’s one thing, if we ever got lost a bloodhound would be able to follow the trail of dead skin.

I’m the same. My legs have been getting drier and drier. I remember seeing a post on Hypotyhroid Mom ages ago about skin problems being (yet another) symptom of thyroid issues. I’ve been trying bio oil recently but haven’t noticed much difference.
