Itchy scalp no dandruff or ringworm its some I just dont know
I was diagnosed underactive in 1997 & put on thyroxine, but did not develop an ultra-dry itchy scalp until 2011,when I also became depressed.I now use "Dead sea Spa Magik"shampoo,as I can't tolerate any other-tried them all!I then slather on aloe vera gel bought in kilo tubs on Ebay, which I allow to stay on overnight,as the stiff hair it causes brushes out in the morning.I often follow shampooing with "Dead Sea Magic Mud",leaving that on for a couple of hours under a towel.
From 2014 I had 2 years on T3-only & the condition cleared up & my depression eased, but my hair became very thin.In 2016 I became depressed again & my scalp again became ultra dry & itchy. Now on combo.
My scalp is the most itchy in 2 patches to either side of the crown.
This illness is a flippin nightmare
So do you think it's depression. I've had alot of stress. A full plate, with no apetite. A full TMI detail on the current stress level.
I don't know!I think the itchy scalp & the depression are part of the same problem, which I suspect is adrenal insufficiency.I think the T3-only protocol worked because it helped my adrenals(I used the circadian rhythm method outlined in Paul Robinson's 2nd book)until I hit another personal stress wall.
I believe I have a mental/emotional condition caused by prolonged stress in childhood. This gives me an extreme reaction to stress. Its called Complex Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. What I am saying is I seem to suffer stress reactions out of proportion to the event! My 2 depressions were definitely the end result of prolonged stress.I think my adrenals are compromised.Another symptom is intermittent blurred vision.
I would be surprised if depression caused an itchy scalp but if you think about it, whatever is causing you to experience life as more stressful than usual could be an imbalance in your body that is also causing the itchy scalp. If you read the posts on this site you will find that many people on here have found they are deficient in their vitamin levels. In additon, your thyroid levels may not be optimal. If you post your latest blood results on here then people will give you good information based on their experience. If you've got vitamin levels then post them on here too. remember to include the laboratory ranges as they vary.
my son had a itchy scalp and dr told him to revolve a zinc shampoo, a tar shampoo and a sulphur shampoo....keep all 3 in the shower and rotate.....his stopped itching......I had some inflammation too and used tar shampoo and it went away....still have the thinning area but doesn't itch anymore or get inflamed...and I don't use shampoos w harsh shampoos anymore
If you had ringworm you'd know it as it is highly contagious and wouldn't stay in one place for long but spread to all and sundry. I had it as a child. It can be caught from animals and also from buildings where infected animals have been. We had visited another farm and they had ringworm there. As farmers my parents recognised it straight away and I was painted with gentian violet, which was an animal treatment for fungal infections. I looked a picture - what with the purple area in the front of my hair and yellow from the iodine on my cuts I could have passed for a new age hippie.
