Prednisolone steroid & Hypo/Hashi

I've just been prescribed Prednisolone steroid for a skin rash but I've read online that there's a few studies which indicate prednisolone interferes with the conversion of T4 to T3 and can make controlled hypo symptoms reappear. Has anyone had any experience of taking prednisolone???

Is this tablets?

How long is your course of prednisolone?

I have had to take it on a few occasions when I've had a lung infection (I have lung disease so it's standard treatment), it's usually for 5 or 7 days at 40mg per day. It's possible it may interfere with conversion during that time, but if it's short course like that it should only be temporary. I have never found it affects me in any way that I notice, I'm too ill with my lung infection to notice anything else, but once the prednisolone has done it's job there is no noticeable difference with my thyroid.

Hi, its a short course of 30mg per day 6x5mg tablets on a morning and Consultant said to lower dose by 5m 1xtablet every week - think the course is 5/6wks altogether. Have not started it yet as was very wary of upsetting the thyroid but also it apparently effects the adrenal glands even at low doses of 6-10mg!

Well it hasn't caused any problem with me but as I said my courses have only ever been for 5 or 7 days and for a different problem.

It may reduce TSH, so avoid getting thyroid levels tested until at least 6-8 weeks after stopping

I swear by Vitamin B12 cream. It has cleared any skin problem I ever got including eczema and pompholyx. It is amazing cream.

I may try that then is there one you can recommend? My skin condition is related to auto-immune. Suspected polymorphic light eruption or lupus. Just had pieces of skin removed which have been sent to histology for analysis. Fingers crossed it's not lupus!

This is the one I keep in the medicine cabinet. I used to buy it from Amazon but it seems they no longer stock it. I did a search and found some here: vitaminsuk.com/products/vit...

The picture is useless so I took a screenshot of the pack.

I don’t know if other makes are available and I have never tried others, but I find this one is excellent and have always re-ordered.

B12 cream from Life-flo.

My niece has Lupus, hopefully you won’t have it. I seem to remember she says it makes her tired without energy to cope with her 3 kids. They are very good understanding kids though so she is lucky.

I don’t remember her ever talking about her skin and she dies her hair funny colours too so she must come into contact with that stuff.
