Prednisolone 5mg

Hi has anyone taken Prednisolone 5mg, I have been prescribed this today due to Thyroiditis ( heart palpitations/ hot flushes/ pain and swollen neck ) I had RAI treatment in April. Just after some advice on this and if it works thank you

Not for many years, when I had it for a chest infection. If you have high cortisol already, it can make you feel worse. Really exhausted but unable to sleep, bloated and just generally bad. However, it is a strong anti-inflammatory so you may well need it. It should help to reduce swelling.

Thank you, neck is very painful and swollen so hopefully that will go, not looking forward to the side effects thou x

You might not have any side effects - esp not if your cortisol is currently low (then it might make you feel great). I think it's just useful to know that, if you do feel that way, it's probably not your thyroid getting worse, it's just the pred. You'll see the list of side effects on the info leaflet.

No. I wasn't on it for long - it made me feel worse than the infection so I binned the tablets! Also I felt too bloated to eat much.

I had a short dose (5 days high dose) I felt wonderful , it took away body pain symptoms and I had no side effects . I was told that it was not a long term solution though because of side effects effecting bones, weight etc

Ah that's good to hear, I started yest, my consultant is seeing me Tues so I'll find out more and what's next. Thank you x
