Just wondered if I could pick people’s brains. I’ve just had my latest medichecks results. Despite not supplementing for some time, my b12 has continued to increase (now high in range) but my folate has dropped and is now low in range. Does anyone know what might have caused this? My diet is balanced with lots of fruit and veg! I’ve read things online about elevated b12 levels and it all looks really scary ☹️☹️☹️
I recently had my Levo dropped from 100mcgs daily to 100/75 alternate days, this was about 3 months ago. I initially felt a lot better but this is starting to taper off now although I don’t feel as bad as I did on 100.
Any insights would be appreciated!
Thank you

I’ve googled and it says all sorts of things about high b12 indicating liver damage and blood cancers😭😭 I like a drink but I wouldn’t have thought I would have liver damage!
It is within range but active b12 is 132 (upper limit is 165) October last year it was 62.5 and I supplemented regularly until the beginning of the year when I reached 99. Haven’t regularly supplemented since then. I should add the supplement I was using was the igennus B so that should have contained folate too.
My Vit D is 80
My CRP hs test was also double what it has been in the past. It’s usually 0.47 ish but today it was 1. Still low in range. I thought maybe related to the covid vaccine but I had my first a few weeks ago now.
My T3 had fallen to 4.2 (3.1-6.8) had been 5 previously. My TSH is now back in range at 0.42.
My antibodies for both tests they do are higher than they’ve ever been too.
Really hope someone can provide reassurance ☹️ panicking that I’ve stumbled on something a lot worse when monitoring my medication change.
Looking likely you might need addition of small doses of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Do you eat any fortified foods with B12
I found high B12 dropped when I started on vitamin B complex. If other B vitamins are low this can be an issue. Perhaps consider taking Thorne basic B or a separate folate
I’m not taking any supplements regularly at the moment. I was taking Igennus B up until the beginning of the year.
I’m not sure I eat anything regularly that’s fortified. I don’t eat cereal or bread very regularly!
I will take a separate folate thank you, I just wonder why it’s suddenly so high. Can’t help but panic really.
I had a stint in A&E for very high heart rate at the end of April. I had blood tests then although I’m not sure what kind I’m sure they said it was general bloods & looking at all my organs. All came back normal!!
Hi HashisKate, I'm sure B12 stays in the body for up to 5 years once we stop ingesting it so I'd guess you had too much and it's only slowly going to decrease. I was the same, presumably becaue I supplemented because I'm vegan and ended up quite a lot over range. (We now know vegans don't necessarily need to supplement B12 after all and to reassure you I don't have any of the scarey things you mentioned). Also, as someone else said, if you take some B vits it depletes others, we should always take them in the right balance, which is hard to find because many companies include a lower % of the RDA of the expensive ones. Hope that's some help.
Thanks for replying. I’ve been having regular bloods so I know that I hadn’t over supplemented. My active b12 was 99 in February and I’d stopped supplementing at the beginning of the year, so it has increased a lot without supplementation 😔
I was taking the igennus b, not just b12, so as to ensure all b vitamins were taken together. I followed exact advice from here basically! That’s the reason why I’ve been worried, it’s all a bit weird. I’m going to retest in 8 or so weeks and check there isn’t another big increase. I worry during the wait though ☹️
Hopefully it’s nothing. I had been working on increasing my ferritin with lots of red meat etc. Perhaps in doing so I also increased my b12. Or perhaps now I’m feeling so much better on my current dose I am absorbing more. There are lots of good reasons, but I’m an anxious person & tend to focus on worst case.
