I believe it is possible to have B12 deficiency with high serum B12 if it is not being transported into the cells. Pop over to healthunlocked.com/pasoc for advice.
Google 'high serum B12' because high B12 without supplementing can indicate underlying illness.
According to Dr Ben Lynch this is another explanation:
“There are many reasons why one may have high folate and/or high B12. Could be as simple as taking a lot of these nutrients via supplements or eating those particular foods high in them. It could also be the microbiome contributing to high B12 (different cobalamin). It could also be because of things blocking your ability to use the B12 and folate - such as heavy metals, inflammation, oxidative stress, ...
Here is one example of how one could possibly have higher B12 and folate levels - caused by acetylaldehyde slowing a key methylation enzyme - MTR. Acetylaldehyde comes from yeast and alcohol.
So reducing yeast overgrowth and alcohol may be the answer for someone's high B12/folate that is not reducing. Or it may be just part of the answer - not fully resolved because of other things slowing it - like metals, inflammation, etc
Yes it’s a new area of research but epigenetics can explain a lot of our health problems.
Dr Ben Lynch is a pioneer and has recently published a book called Dirty Genes. I don’t drink either but my Vitamin B12 and Folate is even higher than yours.
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
