Over heating

EDIT: my econsult with my GP about my overheating which I explained fully with the way it was effecting my life resulted in a text message saying there was nothing more medically that they can do for me and I should try splashing myself with cold water. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally after 6 years of suffering I am feeling good in myself. 100mcg Levothyroxine daily and 0.91 TSH on last blood test. I take 4x25mcg Wockhardt brand.

I’ve given up caffeine and alcohol, I watch what foods I eat. I use beclometasone twice a day for post nasal drip. I supplement daily with CLO, vitC, vitD, Bcomplex and just recently magnesium. I take supplements in the morning and Levothyroxine 4 hours after food in the evening. I do yoga every day and walk/hike regularly.

I’m 55 and went through the menopause 3 years ago.

A few things still bother me - minor ones - I’m slim but I can’t seem to shift my belly weight and I suffer with bloating. My feet also hurt, I no longer seem to suffer with cold feet though. A bit of a strange one, sex always leaves me with a sore throat !

The main thing that is really upsetting my life is overheating. It started a year ago. It’s not the same as menopausal hot flushes or night sweats. I don’t sweat, I overheat. Mainly through the night but also at the slightest exertion, or a cuddle and connected to my emotions. I’ve tried various things to address it but nothings working. My GP says it’s still menopause related but I’m sure in some way it’s thyroid related. If I could sort this life would be great!

Hallo! I can’t help with the overheating thing I’m afraid. I do though continue to have foot pain which started soon after diagnosis. Think it’s plantar wotsit - I bought these below (Amazon) and they really help with alleviating the pain:

Modetro Sports Plantar Fasciitis Foot Care Compression Socks Sleeve with Arch & Ankle Support

Not expensive and maybe worth a try?

I did google this and I don’t think it’s what I’ve got, my feet just hurt all over like an ache not a pain but only at night when I lie down, it’s a bit odd. Thank you for your reply.

Myofascial pain is linked to under active thyroid. Do your feet feel like this? :

No, it literally feels like if you’ve been on your feet all day, swollen, hot and achy, but not swollen or hot just painfully achy. If that makes any sense at all.

It does I have similar in my feet and my legs (thighs) - dull throbby type ache particularly end of day and sometimes at night… then my feet started to hurt underneath as well. But not hot though, so not sure about that. Have you been tested for RA?

No I haven’t. This only started a short while ago when my Levothyroxine dose was increased. I can live with it as only minor, now I’ve got most other symptoms under control.

The over heating is the real problem. I usually sleep in the spare room which is not ideal.

I’m going to give B12 ago again.

I feel like I want to massage something into my feel to sooth them but nothing works.

Foot pain …plantar fasciitis very common when under medicated or poor conversion of Ft4 to ft3

It’s often mix of low Ft3 and low vitamin D

Poor temperature regulation, especially at night can be low B12

Post nasal drip suggests lactose intolerance….extremely common with autoimmune thyroid disease

Are you on lactose free diet if not worth trying

Would probably need lactose free levothyroxine tablets too

Recommend getting FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing done

Remember to stop taking vitamin B complex a week before ALL BLOOD TESTS as contains biotin

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

I had all my vitamins tested and it came back all within range.

I did think B12 as my levels are 590n/gl range 180-2000. I bought B12 and took it for a week and just didn’t feel right and put it down to B12. Maybe I should try again.

I didn’t know post nasal drip was lactose intolerant- I’ll look into that.

Since diagnosis I had suffered with a sore throat every morning and felt like I was choking. I self diagnosed post nasal drip and my GP prescribed the nasal spray, which totally solved that problem.

Thank you for your reply

I get a lot of pain in my feet. Getting T3 and t4 high in range and taking folate, b vits, magnesium and d3 and k2 consistently helps! I don't know which actually cures it - I suspect folate - but it could be any of the other stuff. I think it's peripheral neuropathy- it's not an injury.

This sounds like it, B12 helps with nerve damage, I’m going to try B12 again for the over heating so hopefully it’ll help with the foot pain. Thank you so much for your reply.

I’d like to see where your t3 and t4 are in their ranges… it makes a big difference to me getting my t3 to over 5 and over 6 even better.

I’d have to get those tested privately as GP won’t do them

Low Vitamin D could also be causing the overheating thing. It’s usually associated with sweating but we hypothyroid types don’t tend to sweat as well as we did when our thyroids worked properly. Worth finding out what your Vit D levels are if you can.

My vit D2 + D3 levels are 92nmol/l - 50nmol/l or above is considered adequate. I do supplement with Vit D. I had all my vitamin levels checked and they all came back within range. Thank you for your reply

I have had hot sweats night and day for about 15 years, I am 67. I am hypothyroid but also have chronic leukemia. It's hard to know what it's from but I change clothes several times a day, nightgown and sheets some nights. I have been trying taking cooler baths and showers, but overall it's extremely uncomfotable. Feels like I have the flu sweats. Have had everything including vitamins tested, high ANA titer is the only clue.

Sorry to hear this, it must be very uncomfortable, luckily I don’t actually sweat, I just overheat. Thank you for your reply.
