Up dose of Levothyroxine, terrible spots and sleep

Morning

I’ve recently upped my dosage of Levothyroxine to 100 mcg (Friday).

Since being on Levothyroxine I had been sleeping really well. Obviously, I hadn’t been feeling refreshed and still tried in the mornings, but as soon as my head hit the pillow I was gone.

Last night was a different story, I just didn’t feel like I slept, every hour I was looking at the clock.

The last time I looked at the clock, it was 3am, then I was up 6am to take my Levothyroxine, then nodded off again.

I had this funny sleep pattern before when I first started this Hashimoto’s journey but, it improved.

I take magnesium at night and had nothing on my mind to keep me up.

Is it the change in my much needed dosage?.

I also started to suffer with spots on my face especially forehead, and my skin is oily.

I’ve always had dry skin, and not really suffered with spot.

Is it my hormones getting use to the change in the dosage?

It’s just my other increases seem to be a smooth process.

The only plus is my morning temperature is increasing and I’m starting to feel warm.

Had to ask hubby to put the air conditioning on in the car yesterday, never thought I would hear myself request this.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Best wishes

I presume it was only a 25 mcg upgrade from 75mcg levothyroxin? Early days then as your body gets used to it, and as you have said you have had some of these 'symptoms' before in your journey to good thyroid health. Perhaps this change , and continued improvements, plus the fact that we have had weeks of good warm weather have contributed to feeling hot and 'greasy' skin. Might even have contributed to waking up at night. Be patient.

Hi Judithdalston

Yes that’s correct I was on 75mcg with a 25mcg increase.

Thanks for the reassurance.

I recently increased from 75 to 100 and have had some dreadful sleepless nights this past week. I put it down to the heat, I can’t bear the heat of our summer sometimes.

Loving the rain, although not the overhead thunderstorms. Very scary!

Thanks for your reply.

I wish it was that, but, I'm still feeling the cold, not as much though and I love the sound of thunder.

Lets hope my sleep pattern improves soon as I get very ratty without sleep.

Give it time Peanut, I’m still adjusting myself. It has only been 18 days since my levo was raised. I have to have another blood test at the end of July to check on that and also my extra D3 dose. Hope you get warm soon, because I’m not as bad as I was.

If you need an increase try alternating between 75 and 100 Levo . It might work better for you . It might be that 25mcg T4 is too much and you need an in between dose .

Best Wishes .

I’m fine now thank you jgelliss. 100mcg seems to be suiting me because I have more energy and my weight seems to be going down slightly again at last. Time will tell though.

I'm so Happy for You that it's working well for you . Great ! It could be pretty frustrating getting to our Sweet Spot . I'm sorry I came across your post a bit late . But in the future if you should need an increase I found that increasing slowly was the way to go for me . I let my body acclimate to the increase for a while and then if labs corroborate with my symptoms I will raise or lower slowly again accordingly . I found that it caused less stress on my adrenals too by going slowly but surly .

If I may also advice but I'm sure you know how very important our nutrients are for our thyroid meds to work well for us .

Not to worry jgellis, I’m pretty good at looking after my body. I was diagnosed over 10 yrs ago as borderline, and only in the recent couple of years have needed to increase my levo. I’m 71 and have one of the best doctors on earth. x
