Bloods back: Got results back. All in range apart... - Thyroid UK
Bloods back
Make sure that you take iron supplements at least four hours away from any thyroid hormone medicines.
Otherwise the iron compounds can react with the thyroid hormone and substantially reduce the amount available to be absorbed.
Please add actual TSH, Ft4 and ft3 results and ranges
How much vitamin D are you currently taking
What was vitamin D result?
Were B12 and folate tested
How low was ferritin
Just testing TSH is completely useless
You need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 tested together
cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3
£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code
Vitamin D improving, aiming for at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol maybe better
No folate or B12 results
Ferritin is very low.
As well as iron supplements look at increasing iron rich foods in diet
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine at each prescription
If you don't get on with ferrous sulphate you can buy prescription-strength iron tablets from pharmacies in the UK without a prescription - you only need the pharmacist's permission.
I couldn't tolerate ferrous sulfate, but I cope quite well with ferrous fumarate 210mg.
For more options see this response I wrote to another member on the subject of iron supplements. Ignore the info on pregnancy!
