Multivitamin Recommendations for Thyroid Health

I recently bought Rainbow Light 50+ Mini Tablet Multivitamin; I know it's a case-by-case for multivitamins based on physiology, age, health, etc. I would like to hear some multivitamin recommendations to help thyroid health because I am dealing with a sluggish thyroid on medicine. I am assuming slow due to nutrient deficiencies, and of course, doctors don't care about checking nutrients.

The multivitamin doesn't exist that I would recommend. They are generally not recommended on here, for a multitude of reasons.

1) The don't contain enough of anything to deal with a deficiency - e.g. in the one you mention, there is only 200 mcg B12. People with a deficiency - or even low B12 - need at least 1000 mcg.

2) They don't contain the right form of the vitamin or mineral - e.g. folic acid instead of methylfolate; cyanocobalamin (B12) instead of methylcobalamin; magnesium oxide, which is one of the least easily absorbable forms of magnesium. It's the cheapest froms that are used.

3) They contain things you don't need or really don't want - e.g. yours contains calcium, which you are unlikely to need and isn't a good thing to supplement with, anyway.

4) They don't always contain the things you do need - e.g. yours contains vit D3 (although only a small dose) but does not contain the vit K2- MK7 which you need to go with it.

5) They aren't very well balanced - e.g. only 200 mcg B12, but 800 mcg folic acid - which is rather a lot.

You really do need to get your nutrients tested, and just take what you need, in suitable quantities, as suggested by the test results.

Hi greygoose , may I ask your opinion on this one? I am so fed up of all the supplements I take! I like the look of this one as no copper, no iron, no iodine. I would take D+K7 spray, B12 lozenge, magnesium citrate powder in addition - nice mix of pills and sprays and powders. It has only 66ug selenium so I’d take some extra of that from time to time also, though I do wonder how you know how much to take of that? I note it has a small amount of calcium, but I think I would be OK with that as I am (sadly) dairy free. Any views gladly welcomed! naturaldispensary.co.uk/pro...

It contains such small, unbalanced amounts of things. I suppose it can't do any harm, but as you'll be obliged to take so much stuff on top, I can't see the point. I'd rather just take a good B complex and all the other things individually.

Thank you. Once I run down my vast stocks I may give it a go, if it’s in stock and not extortionate!

I just ordered this vitamin by Pure encapsulation- I just seem to feel better when I take a multivitamin- I thought the levels and quality of ingredients looked good- I just got tired of taking everything individually- I will supplement this with extra D and C. I've taken several different supplements from Pure Encapsulations and was thrilled to find this one without iron, copper, or iodine. Let me know how you make out with it! Was hard to find as everyone is out of stock but did find it- I'm in the U.S.

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Thorne do a really good mutli with methylated b vits as easier for body to use and they do a copper and iron free one as these can be problematic for some people. It also has 200 mg of selenium for thyroid as recommended by izabella wentz. Be warned though need to take 6 caps a day. And then have your iron checked if you need iron add organ meats or a natural iron supp.

Other good brand is pure encapsulations. Izabella wentz does articles online about bits and minerals needed for thyroid.

If you need extra vit c I been using a natural powder of camu camu in a little juice. For extra magnesium I use bio care magnesium malate found that one works for me.

Hope this helps
