Can anyone help with some advice on my sons blood test results

Hello good people. I’ve seen so much amazing advice and info on this forum. I’m hypo but fortunately in a good place with the help of a bit of levo, GF diet etc. Having read a fair bit myself I was concerned when my 20 year olds son started complaining of various symptoms which rang alarm bells! Hairloss, cold extremities, fatigue, aching joints, brittle nails, brain fog, low mood etc.

I suggested he get a Thyroid function test plus vits, and our GP was happy to test. I was alarmed to see his TSH was 3.66. He’s otherwise always been heathy and fit. I’ve always encouraged him to take a few supplements to top up his diet. (Vit D, C, Zinc, Omega etc. more recently biotin - he stopped that a few days before blood test and tested before breakfast as per advice) GP obviously said the TSH is normal/in range so no need to treat. My sons hair is falling out in handfuls and he just isn’t as well as he should be in his prime. Surely 3.66 is well over range for a healthy 20 year old!?

Here are his results, hope you can read ok. He’s now left home so it’s harder to keep track of where he’s at. We also have a fairly difficult relationship so I have to tread carefully. He has just had more blood tests for arthritis as his knees really hurt. Don’t have the results yet. He’s not too keen on me interfering so I don’t want to march him into the surgery demanding Levo unless there is a good chance it could be a good fix for him. His doctor hasn’t suggested any treatment but something needs to happen soon before he deteriorates further.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!?

Suggest you consider getting FULL thyroid testing done at some point

You need TPO and TG antibodies tested plus Ft3

Vitamin D could be a bit higher....might be causing knee pain

Or bone joint pain can be wheat/gluten intolerance

I am comparing the results to my husbands. He had a thyroid test with the GP in Dec and returned around 4.2 on the 0.27 - 4.2 range, with fT4 at the lowest normal range, so the GP tested again in January (TSH 6.8 if I recall correctly) and we tested privately a couple of weeks later, TSH 10.4... I am quite amazed at how quickly the husbands TSH skyrocketed, so it feels as if it is well worth encouraging the son to keep an eye on it, although of course, he’s at that age when we know we know better than our parents(!) so I get that it might be very hard to get a message through! Still, untreated, it can impact libido and I’m sure he might be interested in that!
