Hello, I currently take 2.5 grains of thyroid s spilt over 2 doses, one at 7am the other at 10pm. I am going t be changing to t4 and t3, and wondered what the suggested dose would be, and should I do a straight swap or gradually decreased the thyroid s and introduce the t4 and t3? My GP thinks I should stay on thyroid s, but I don’t feel as well as I did on thyroid, and would like to try a combination where I can alter individual doses. Any advice on switching appreciated .

Changing from thyroid s to t4/t3 combo help needed
Thiroid worked well for me too, but I didn't feel well on Thyroid S. I am now 'reduced' to Tru thyroid (which I don't think works well enough if at all) and some Metavive. But I am noticing hypo symptoms returning, and considering trying to get hold of some Liothyronine to go with the thyroxine that the endo gave me to get my TSH down (it makes them happy rather than me well).
I would also be interested in suggestions for dosing T4/T3. I always found a dose of between 2 and 2 1/2 grains of NDT ideal for me.
If you are a lay person I suggest you buy a copy of "The Thyroid patient's Manual" by Paul Robinson as a starting point. The change you are proposing is complicated because in the bloodstream T4 has a half-life of several weeks i.e. slow acting whilst the half-life of T3 is a few hours i.e. fast acting. Any dose change of T3 must be done very gradually as it is a very potent drug. Your proposed change needs to be supervised by an Endocrinologist with relevant experience. I suggest you track blood pressure throughout the day with a blood pressure monitor which can be bought cheaply on-line.
