The canary down the mine. Covid vaccine for over 65's with Hashimoto's ?

I know it's early days, but does anyone on here have any information about over 65's with Hashimoto's (and high antibodies) having a reaction to any of the covid vaccines? The blue envelope has just dropped on the mat. The appointment has been set for next week. (Cue theme for 'Jaws'...) .

This comes at the precise moment I'm about to run out of Nature-Throid. Have tried Armour again but I had a bad reaction to one of the fillers. Running out of runway. I'm 70.

Has anyone got reliable feedback?

Thanks!

This is a quotation from the British Thyroid Foundation:

Leave aside the glib statement about T4 therapy:

Levothyroxine used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and antithyroid drugs (carbimazole and propylthiouracil) used to treat an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) do not suppress your immune system.

‘Thyroid disease is not known to be associated with increased risk of viral infections in general, nor is there an association between thyroid disease and severity of viral infection’. This information is based on the collective experience of many thyroid experts who have treated many thousands of patients with thyroid disease. There is also some indirect evidence from studies, such as that for Journy et al, (2017) who looked at causes of death of women with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism from cancer, heart disease, diabetes and all other causes, and found that there was no excess deaths from other causes which will have included infections. There is some evidence that patients who have uncontrolled hypothyroidism (i.e. very high serum TSH) have impaired immune function. This returns to normal once corrected with thyroid hormones.

Thank-you Diogenes. Yes, also leaving aside glib statements such as "many thyroid experts". I haven't found any other than Dr. P (who had Hashimoto's himself) back in the earlier 2000's. Of course there are many trained to be 'experts', but who are not. They only see it from the outside in. The best 'expert' is one who understands the problem from the inside out.

All that aside ... useful info and I much appreciate your swift response.

Diana49, There is no evidence so far that people with thyroid disorders are at any particular risk from any Covid-19 vaccination. As these are such new vaccines, only time will tell though.

You can look at the comments on our poll to get some idea of how people with thyroid disorders who have already been vaccinated, are or are not being affected. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Hi. I’m the same as you. I’m 70 and the blue envelope arrived yesterday. My friends are all whooping with delight but my stomach dropped to the floor when I saw it. Decision time. I’ve done so much research and this website pretty much pulls together everything I’ve learned in the past few months. Hope it helps. ukmedfreedom.org/resources/...

Thank you. My dilemma now is whether to share it with my whooping friends. I don't want to burst their happy bubble but I want their consent to be informed

I would love the people I care about to be making informed decisions about all kinds of things, this included, but most of them simply don't want to know or are happy with the information sources that they have found for themselves, whether they fall in the 'happy bubble' camp or the 'too terrified not to'. Happy bubbles are very comforting. I have given up unless asked directly.

Hi, I assume all the over 70's living in Scotland will have received the blue envelope yesterday. Myself, I need a balance of hard facts and intuition. Too many facts can get in my way. Everyone is different of course. I do know we all have the right to make our own mistakes without someone insisting on 'saving' us. However, I agree with 'bookish', and I would wait to be asked.

Having said that, because of our ages, we are in the vanguard - at the front of the queue, and for once in my life I would prefer to be near the back so that I can watch and wait. For me, there's a feeling of 'risking it' around.

I imagine there'll be surprises and unpredictable turns of fate all throughout 2021. It'll be a year of experimentation and adjusting in all spheres of life not just with the vaccines. I feel, in a way, that the population at large could become part of the extended vaccine trials. Trial and error all the way.

I phoned the number on the letter inside the blue envelope. Had a lovely chat with a young American girl in the call-centre. I asked her about the inactive ingredients because I wanted to check them. She had no idea but suggested I telephone the local venue doing the jabs about 2 days beforehand and they might be able to tell you exactly which one of the vaccines they will be using, ie Pfizer or AstraZeneca etc. Then to look up the ingredients online.

Thanks for the link, I'm sure it will be helpful.

I’ve just spoken to a friend. Her husband had it this morning at our mass vaccination centre. He asked which it was and it was the Pfizer. She says the word is that they use it in the morning (so as not to waste any as it’s so hard to store) then move on to the Astra Zeneca in the afternoon.
