Would vitamin and minerals help: Hello I haven't... - Thyroid UK
Would vitamin and minerals help
Before we take vitamins/minerals we should have a blood test to ensure that they are low.
A low B12 could mean you may have Pernicious Anaemia and testing the 'intrinsic factor' would confirm or not that you have this conditions which is serious if you don't have regular injections of B12.
Vitamin D for instance if too low:
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Hello Aerobics to go :
I read of people, whose thyroid have, over time, burnt itself out leaving the person with hypothyroid symptoms.
This is a possibility but a guess, as the logical answer is to have full thyroid panel to cover both your TSH, T3 and T4 plus ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D which are the vitamins and minerals always suggested we need at optimal levels for core strength and a solid health base.
There are private companies who will take the bloods for you, should you doctor nor be able to run this base thyroid and vitamin and mineral blood test for you, and if you dip into the Thyroid uk website, you will find these details plus so much more about all things thyroid.
Thyroid uk are the charity behind this amazing forum and whom for the most part helped my understanding of my thyroid health issues.
I'm was diagnosed with Graves Disease back in 2003 and given RAI thyroid ablation in 2005. I deeply regret this treatment, and now manage lingering Graves, thyroid eye disease and hypothyroidism and self medicate with full thyroid hormone replacement.
When you last posted greygoose asked you about your diagnosis. We often see members posting here wrongly diagnosed. Click onto Aerobicstogo to see your previous post and Replies 🌻
I am now borderline overactive thyroid and just have to have 2 thyroid tests a year.So I am pleased since I took carbimazole for many years.
I am not very good with technology so it's very hit and miss whether my replies go to the right place.I was just wondering because I have c.o.p.d aswell I am taking vitamins and 12 I just want to help to keep my immune system as well as it can be.
Did you go back and read your previous post I linked for you above ....
Whenever I rang about my thyroid results I was.told i needed to stay on carbimazole or drop or increase medication I never had anything to read to say what was going on only telephone for results.I did see a specialist a few months ago and he was quite pleased with me
You are legally entitled to have copies of all your results. Then you can monitor your own progress and check what has been missed. You can ring the surgery and request them - say you will be along to collect them in a few days. You do not have to give a reason. Surely you want to know if any mistakes have been made ....have a read around other posts to help your understanding.
