Possible Hypothyroidism, and low vitamin b12 and vitamin d

Hello, my name is Denise, i am new to this site. I have epilepsy and been on long term medication for about 40 yrs. Off the back of that, i am now suffering side effects from the medication i take, such as low vitamin d and b12 levels and a thyroid that is not functioning properly, possibly underactive. I am here trying to find out information and educate myself, so I can go back to my local g.p with a view to getting them to review my thyroid and b12 results and hopefully be treated for these.

Welcome Babs37

You have come to the right place!

It sounds as if you need a comprehensive thyroid test to include TSH, FT4, FT3, vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin and antibodies.

I doubt your GP will agree to all of these, many of us have private tests instead ( see link below)

Can I suggest that, for a start you have a look at this website, thyroiduk.org/?v=79cba1185463

Also, read as many posts on here that relate to your concerns...click on the search button at the top of the page.

Members will respond to any questions you have so don't hesitate to ask, we are all here to help each other. Preparing before visiting a medic is a wise idea many of them are not well informed regarding matters thyroid.

hello there DD

Firstly thank you SO MUCH!! for replying to me. Its the first time i have done anything like this, well thats a slight lie, on an epilepsy forum, so do chat there occasionally but not often. A friend recommended this sight as she has M.E and has been on here investigating for her own health issues. I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't quite sure what to right in my post, you feel like you are writing to the invisible man when your posting for the first time, so thankyou for being the person who welcomes me.

ill have a look at the link, thankyou but yes you are right i feel i may hit a wall with my doctors. i had annual bloods done in november, which did chuck up an over the range TSH level so they wanted me to have another one done 8 weeks later. Whilst i was having the second bloods done i asked off my own back to do other checks, some of which they did and some they didn't.

My vitamin b12 level is sitting at 234pg (145-914) so i feel that's low, although, because my results are in range they say no further action is required ? any thoughts on this?

b12 plasma folate replete is 7ng/ml ( 4.0-20) again no further action required supposedly as in range?

FT4 came back as 10.7pmol (6.3-14)

TSH 4.68mu (0.3-5.6)

T3 was not done, even though i requested it

vitamin d i am level 24 and that has come back that i need medication as i'm deficient.

I don't know if you would know, but what would your thoughts be on my results above?

i am wondering if i am on the verge of hypothyroidism?

what would your thoughts be?

thank you once again.

look forward to chatting more.

hope you are keeping well and away from covid

best wishes
