Hi.

Is there anyone who has genetic hypothyroidism?

I was wondering if anyone could get in touch with me regarding genetic component to hypothyroidism.

There are 3 genes involved, one of the gene's characteristic is limited conversion from T4 to T3.

Does it mean that no matter what a person would do or take, eventually would die?

Thanks.

No. If there is a conversion problem then you can take t4 and t3 hormones. Some folks take t4, some t4 and t3 and others t3 only.

Tried both but had a very bad allergic reaction. Thank you for your answer though.

Do you mean having Dio2 gene variation?

I am not too sure. The genetic variations were found through 23andme. These are the genes: RS4704397, RS2235544 and RS225014. Thank you for your reply!

These genetic variations have almost negligible effect. The studies show minor effects on T4 to T3 conversion. If someone has hypothyroidism they may need some T3 to compensate for the T3 that a healthy thyroid would produce in order to avoid some cognitive impairment.

Thank you for your answer. Tried T4 on it's own but had an allergic reaction even after trying another brand of T4 with no mannitol in it then tried T3 and the same reaction happened. So I am a bit of a loss. Both hormones made a difference in a good way though.
