A miracle for my hair

Hi guys, I wanted to share an experience. I have been hypothyroid since 2015 and in that time my hair got worse and worse. It has always been fine and I was lucky none fell out but it felt like straw and looked like candy floss. The hair on each side started twizzling and it looked like how the Orthodox Jews have their twirly bits. I’m not trying to offend anyone but that is the best description of what it looked like. It was all different lengths because it was breaking off.

I had read that a silk pillowcase was good for hair so I invested in one and I can honestly say that it is the best money well spent. It has been three months since I started to use it and my hair is so soft, no more breaking, no more candy floss, just normal hair once again. I never thought I would have normal hair again. Best of all, no more twizzling.

I know that us people with thyroid problems struggle with our hair and I know the same things don’t work for everyone. I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone.

I am pleased to hear that but it also might mean that your thyroid levels are now right for you. Do you have any results to share with us? Like the TSH, T4 and T3?

Hi, I don’t have any actual results to post at the moment but my doctor is moaning about my suppressed TSH and high FT3. I take my own T3 and was taking Thyroid S until that became scarce. I have moved into metavive after reading good experiences of it on here. I take a good multi vitamin and I biotin tablet each day.

To be honest, I have felt good on all of these. It was only the Levo that made me feel like death warmed up. I have mostly given up on even wanting to know all the ins and outs of my test results, I just know I feel good and that works for me.

The doctors have accepted that I treat myself, after reading the wonderful advice on this forum, I am able to argue back with them. The endocrinologist they put me onto even agreed I was doing what was right for me and I could source my medication cheaper than he could.

I have taken these things for a while but it has only been these last few months with the pillowcase that has made a difference with my hair. Maybe I have hit my optimum levels but I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else.

I am pleased to hear you are well and I actually feel better when my TSH is low at 0.38 and my T4 is top of the range. I am in remission from Graves' and I have a multinodular goiter. I actually wear a silk mask when I am out and about shopping because of covid and I feel like I can breathe better in it than a paper one.

I am so glad to hear that you are in remission. A silk mask is such a good idea. I will look into that myself. Anything that makes breathing easier is a big help.

I bought a silk pillowcase as well about 3 months ago and it feels wonderful when I lay my head down I feel like a princess! I think I’ve seen a small difference in hair loss/breakage but I’m also using tressimee hair tonic which I would recommend as well.

Thank you. My hair has been falling out for years and my scalp is very itchy! I'll give anything a try so this is helpful. Thanks for sharing.

I just had a quick look at your previous posts and see you are taking Levothyroxine. Have you increased your dose from 75mcg? Usually hair doesn't stop falling out until you are on a established dose. Also because of the hair cycle you are now losing hair 3-4 months from what your levels were before. Hair is quick to fall out and slow to grow back I'm afraid.

Hi, I stopped the levo a long time ago. I’m sorry that I’m more of a reader of this forum than a poster so I haven’t really been updating my story, just quietly changing meds and feeling so much better for it.

I shall try as my hair is now getting g really thin.

Could you PM me about Metavive as I haven’t heard about that.

Thank you and happy New Year

Are you still just taking 50mcg of Levothyroxine because that is only a starter dose.

Hi, not on the levo anymore. Metavive and T3 is what I’m on now.

I have used silk pillowcases for a very long time, very nice to sleep on and yes, it does keep your hair from messing up.
