Below are my results 5 months ago when I was taking 37.5mcg of t3 +125mg of levo & now & I’m taking 50mcg t3 + 150mg levo. Please advise.
I'm curious, how do you feel with high FT3 levels? Do you have any sweating or symptoms of hyper?
Yes I have. Terrible sweating and feeling hot and diarrhoea. I’m just worried about getting it to a good level without feeling too hypo.
I had that happen to me when I switched from Levo to 120mg of natural desiccated. My T4 and T3 was over the range. I was severely overheated, sweating, and couldn't exert myself physically. I'm currently on Levo/T3. I agree with the other advice here to drop back on that T3 and split it because you're taking a good amount of Levo already. So far I'm only up to 12.5mcg of T3 after one week. I'm hoping after a few weeks I'll get some more conversion from the Levo and added T3. As tempting as it is to want to reduce my Levo a little I'm working on one at a time.
I assume you followed the "rules" about a 24 hour gap from levo and 8 - 12 hours from lio and an early morning blood draw.
Personally I wouldn't want free T3 so high above range. I'm not sure if you raised lio and levo together and if not, got any blood results after just changing one thing - but if it were me, I'd drop lio back to 37.5 mcg and see how you feel and re-test after 8 weeks x
Yes I followed the rules and because the result scared me and I was getting diarrhoea and sweating, I dropped to no t3 for a couple of days and feel awful (coincidence?) so I’ve taken 25mcg today and will see how I feel. I hate this up and down of Hashimoto’s.
As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet, or tried it ?
Hashimoto’s swing could be behind such large change
Strictly gluten free diet can help reduce these changes and reduce symptoms
I try but I’m not strictly gluten free. I must admit the hyper symptoms and the high result scared me, so I stopped the t3 for a couple of days and feel really lightheaded and dizzy. Don’t know if the t3 change is the cause or something else. I’ve taken 25mcg today in the hope that i will feel better. I just don’t know what to do. Should I reduce the levo.? The gp wants me to because of my tsh but I am reluctant to listen to them because they ignore symptoms etc. Any advice is sincerely welcomed.
Do you split your T3?
Many people find it necessary to split into 2 smaller doses (approx 12 hours apart) or 3 smaller doses (roughly 8 hours apart)
If taking a 25mcg tablet. - 1/2 tablet at 7am, 1/4 tablet 3pm and 1/4 tablet 11pm
Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine?
Do you take levothyroxine at bedtime or waking?
You can’t change things suddenly. Only reduce slowly and steadily. Important to take exactly same dose T3 everyday
Levothyroxine you can take different doses on different days, but overall dose should not change. Only reduce slowly
Suggest you reduce T3 only at moment. Ideally you would reduce by 1/4 tablet, then after 2-3 weeks another 1/4.
But if it’s tolerable to reduce by 1/2 tablet........stick with just that.
Retest after 6-8 weeks
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
If/when also on T3, make sure to take last third or quarter of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test (so on 25mcg tablet a day - take last 1/4 tablet 8-12 hours before test)
