Blood tests with ranges this time..

These are the blood tests with ranges this time. High creatinine shows my kidneys are struggling, the liver is still struggling, cholesterol is high and I agree it just seems like I am undermedicated at 50mcg of Levo per day. I am composing a letter to my endo to ask for more levo rather than T3 at this stage, thank you for all the advice, I can copy and paste all the links you sent me to argue my case. Incredibly useful.

Ft4 14.4 (10.8-25.5)

Ft4 is only 24.4% through range

Looking to slowly increase levothyroxine dose upwards in 25mcg steps until at least 60-70% through range

Folate - 12.3 - has asterisk - is this below range???

B12 - 359

B12 is too low

Please add folate range

Ferritin 66 -ok - typically aiming to maintain at minimum of 70

Vitamin D 81 nmol - good

You obviously need dose increase in levothyroxine

Likely to need to supplement vitamin B complex and B12

Dear SlowDragon, thank you again for taking the time to look at these. I am writing to my endo to ask about increasing my Levo due to all your advice. The folate still has no range attached but it seems high, which could be due to my diet or related to low B12. Thanks for all your help, I'm on it now...

Folate is more likely low

Folate is never ever flagged up as too high....only as too low

Suggest you start taking a daily good quality vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)

Or Thorne Basic B is another option that contain folate, but is large capsule

B vitamins are water soluble, so are not a problem to take as we just pee away excess

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

With such low B12 result taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months, then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

Your low GFR and high cholesterol support the low Ft4 results that shows you are currently very under medicated and still very hypothyroid

Just noticed in your profile.....

but I put on weight after 3 rounds of ivf with steroids

Steroids may affect TSH and/or thyroid/pituitary/adrenal axis long term

Makes any TSH result highly suspect .....some degree of central hypothyroidism possible

Dear SlowDragon

I really do appreciate your time looking through all this. If only you had been my doctor all this time! Am going to investigate and go as far as I can with the co-operation of this endocrinologist, (she did originally say she was willing to trial me on T3 for 3 months so she is better than some) and after that we will see.

I can get started on the B12 supplement and note the difference between folate and folic acid.

My folate has been high before which is why I thought this one might also be.

Do you think I should ask about the MTHFR gene?

The past is the past now, (3 miscarriages-5 rounds of ivf-steroids-depression etc) and I can't change what might have been if I had had better support/diagnosis back then and it saddens me to think about it all. But I feel that I am closer than ever to getting things sorted, even if I have to go private in the end and get someone to listen. All your advice has been absolutely invaluable and I really am thankful.
