I’ve recently been told by a naturopath I see that I have hydrogen sulphide SIBO. I tried an elimination diet but it didn’t seem to help. The gastroenterology department at the hospital suggested antibiotics. Has anyone had any experience of this? Can antibiotics affect Hashimoto’s?
Thanks in advance.

Ditto to PaulaV66 - it almost seems like relapse is inevitable for most people after antibiotic treatment. I am considering going the herbal route but haven’t started it yet.
I was in the same situation. I found a very good study that showed that natural antibiotics can work every bit as good, if not better as normal antibiotics and asked my specialist about it. He agreed I should give it a go. I went on the suggested products by Bio Botanical Research. I used their suggested SIBO range of Biocidin drops, olivirex and GI Detox. I found this very helpful:
I also tried their probiotic but found that it didnt suit me and using a dairy free bio-live yogurt worked just as well. I did the regime and got almost immediate improvement which carried on. After a few months I stopped and Ive only had one bout start so started again which again put it to bed. Touch wood, using the dairy free products, being GF and no soy has helped too.
Just one final point. I also found that the SIBO was worse when my thyroid meds were not where they should be. Since correcting my dose that has also helped too. If I start to get a bout of SIBO I check my thyroid to see if that needs any attention. Perhaps you could do the same and also make sure Vit D, B12 and Ferritin are also in the correct ranges. I hope you find what works for you. Im glad I didnt do the antibiotics!
