I joined the Thyroid Awareness presentation today on Zoom which was very informative. Along with the excellent advice and support I have already received from you on this forum it confirmed the importance of having the correct vitamin and mineral levels.
With this in mind I have decided to start supplementing firstly with Vit D. I used the calculator, but I'm not sure if the results are correct from what I think I understand re dosage, i wondered if you wonderful people could help me calculate the correct amount to take.
Is the Vegavero D3 K2 Spray 25ml, 20 mcg Vitamin D3 (800 IU) + 75 mcg Vitamin K2 (MK7) spray adequate (1 spray pet day) or do I need either a higher dose or can I have multiple sprays of this to achieve the correct dose?
My current Vit D level is 83.5 nmol/L (50 -175 nmol/L)
Your picture is too small to read so unfortunately I can't see if they are recommending a dose or what.
I don't use that calculator, I go by what the Vit D Council had on their website and to increase your current level to the level recommended by the Vit D Society/Vit D Council their suggestion would be in the region of 2,000-3,000iu D3 daily.
As it is now winter and we can no longer make Vit D from the sun, personally I would think 3,000iu would be a better dose and retest in 3 months.
800iu D3 is barely a maintenance dose for someone with a good level already. I have raised my level from severely deficient (15nmol) to the recommended level and I need a maintenance dose of 5,000iu all year round. Others find a maintenance dose of 1,000-2000iu is their maintenance dose, it's all trial and error.
90-100mcg Vit K2-MK7 is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.
Don't forget you need magnesium as well, this helps the body convert D3 into it's usable form. You'll need to choose the form of magnesium best suited to your own individual needs:
D3 and magnesium need to be taken 4 hours away from Levo, K2 will be fine 2 hours away from Levo. No time restriction if you use oral sprays for D3 and K2 and topical magnesium.
D3 and K2 need to be taken with dietary fat unless you buy oil based softgels or oral sprays.
If your D3 and K2 are not oil based, take them at different times of the day as they will compete for fat for absorption.
