Lower cholesterol after decrease of thyroxine...what's going on?

Hi all, I was on 100mcg of levo for quite some time and cholesterol level was 7 and pre-diabetic level was 47....ok was prescribed statins which I did not take.

Levo was reduced to 75mcg January 2020 and I was dreading my cholesterol level going higher due to hypothyroidism, and total inability to exercise due to heart issue.

Surprise, surprise last week annual blood test via GP revealed cholesterol level 5.2 and pre-diabetic level 45. How can this be possible with a reduction of thyroxine, hypothyroidism (I had thyroid removed) along with a massive reduction in my exercise routine?

Did not change my healthy diet.

I am quite perplexed, would really appreciate some feedback.

I now taking statins to get cholesterol even lower but not happy taking them as I am on a trial of NDT which could help lower cholesterol level.

Would appreciate some feedback.

Have a rewarding day.

Why do you want to lower your cholesterol? Have you read any of the work by Dr Kendrick? “The Great Cholesterol Con”.

Hi Penny yes I have read that brilliant article and did not take statins when they were first prescribed due to high cholesterol. But recently found out, after cardio echostress test that I have mitral valve Stenosis. (Narrowing mitral valve that restricts blood for to heart) so decided to take statins this time to hopefully prevent the condition getting worse.

The stenosis was caused by rheumatic fever, left untreated years ago, which damaged mitral valve, hence calcification in valve (Stenosis). So now decided to take the statins because I afraid stenosis will get worse.

So heart issue was not caused by high cholesterol in the first instance but is secondary consequence due to valve damage.

Confused as to whether I should carry taking the statins.

I caught up in statins lies....!

Would appreciate some feedback Penny.

Sincere thanks

I cannot advise as I’m not a medic. It is some time since I read Dr Kendrick’s books; I don’t know if you can search on his blog for this particular condition.

Good luck.
