Ferritin suddenly dropped again despite continually eating liver?!

Hi everyone,

I had a blood test yesterday after a bad experiences trying to raise T4. I got blood result back and I am mystified. I am currently on 75mcg T4 and 5.5mcg T3 and results were as follows:

T3 4.7 (3.5-6.5)

T4 14.9 (10-20) (probably lower than this as it hasn't been 4 weeks since I reduced from 85mcg increase to 75)

Ferritin: 25 (15-250)

I am incredibly frustrated as I had been eating liver weekly and showing signs of improvement: gradually my ferritin climbed monthly from the original 22 to 32 to 42 then 52 now suddenly its 25 again?! I am very upset because I have been eating liver for months for apparently nothing! Nothing in my diet changed except that I recently started my periods again for the first time in years - 3 weeks apart and a little heavy but not excessive.

My t3 has also dropped again and is now 0.1 lower than it was before I started liver! I can definitely feel it as I am getting very bad symptoms again but my FT4 also looks a little low for me but I tried upping it and after 9 days had a terrible experience. I am wondering if I should focus on taking more T3 at the moment because in the past my ferritin level has been intrinsically tied to my ft3 and then if I need to add t4 later? How much do you think would be good to go up by? Thanks!

Assuming you did test as recommended...early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test and last 2.5mcg of daily dose T3 8-12 hours before test

Ft4 is 49% through range

Ft3 40% through range

Perhaps try adding 2nd 5mcg (or even 2.5mcg) dose T3 12 hours after first dose

Thank you SlowDragon. Yes I tested at 8.30am fasting and 24 hours after last t4 dose and 8 hours after last t3 dose. I think I will try the 2.5mcg increase as I seem to respond strongly even to small amounts :)
