Getting T3 in Greece

Hi there, I am due (hopefully anyway) to go to Corfu. Does anyone know if it is possible to get T3 (5mcg) directly from greek pharmacies whilst there and would I need a private prescription to show them? Thank you

5 microgram liothyronine (T3) is a rare product.

USA, UK and Netherlands are the only sources I can think of.

This is a list of currently marketed liothyronine tablets in the UK.

Please note that re-branding (whether by a manufacturer or as an β€˜own label supplier’) – which has happened with several products – does not mean any change to formulation.

Thanks, this is very interesting. Never realised that my 5mcg supply was a rare beast. Really useful list thank you

If you can get a prescription, I would consider contacting pharmacies until you find one willing to contact Ace Pharma in the Netherlands. But it has to be a pharmacy/hospital that contacts them - they cannot supply individuals.

From what I gather, they are less expensive than USA or UK products. So would either save you money, or encourage continued NHS supply.

Actually Uni Pharma splits easily...even into 1/8ths

Cutting to 1/4 is easy

Would you need a prescription? If so does it matter if it’s private ?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministratorβ€’ in reply toStar13

Unlikely. Marz may know current state of getting T3 oTc

Private or NHS UK prescription almost certainly won’t work once we leave EU

You may find the odd packet - they only have 2/3 in stock but may order in. Just don't be too greedy 😷 I lived in Crete until recently and had to produce my prescription !

I've not personally been to Greece in years but I've read on other forums that pharmacies in touristy areas will often let you buy without prescription.

ThaiDogRescue profile image
ThaiDogRescue

one trick to find pharmacies that don't require prescriptions is to google questions like "where can I buy Viagra near X nightclub in Y city" there's bound to be guys discussing it somewhere and the same pharmacies will probably have T3.

You can buy a month's supply of T3 - they used to do so without a prescription but may not do so now. So I'd go to a chemist and ask as they might have to order it for you and it would come from the mainland.

T3 dose comes in 25mcg but it is easy to split into quarters if you get a pill cutter.

I was able to buy four boxes OTC in Athens last Autumn but they had to order it in and it arrived the following day, so I also suggest going to a pharmacy as soon as you arrive and asking about it. I used to go to several pharmacies and buy whatever each had, but didn't have time to do that last year. It may still work!

Edited to add, I've just realised you want 5mcgs, the Greek T3 is 25mcgs, you could split it into four but probably not 5!
