Can anyone please tell me if I can get T3 over the counter in Malta, or do I need to have a prescription, also the same for Greece? Also has anyone got any ideas or links of where to get it on line abroad, please can you private message me?
I am not asking for myself, i'm asking for a friend, who is in desparate need of a supply of Liothyronine. My friend cannot take T4 it makes her really ill as she cannot convert T4, therefore she has been taking T3 for many years, up until a year or more ago, when her GP and Endo were told that they were not allowed to write out a prescription for it for her anymore. I am going on holiday to Malta on Monday, and another friend is going to Greece on Monday, and I was obviously hoping, that between us both, we could bring my other friend back a supply of T3.
I would appreciate any advise, and thank you in advance.
Best wishes.

That is a terrible situation for your friend to be in. Ive been coming to Spain for years and can buy Eltroxin at any strength over the counter but they don't have NT Armour etc. Its so wrong for your friend not to be able to get it. Could she try a different GP. I'm so upset the way women are being treated. There is a thyroid help group being set up in Ireland where I'm from with a view to getting together to deal with thyroid issues.
It's to do with our government why my friend can't have T3 from her doctor, or Endocrinologist. Concordia Pharmaceuticals supply T3 and they have put the prices up to something like £900 per pack of T3. Going to another GP will not make any difference, she still won't get it. My daughter tried to get it for me in Benidorm, but they won't supply it without a prescription.
I take ELTROXIN, but I am able to get it from my doctor and chemist as it is T4; not T3. Why are you having to get ELTROXIN from Spain?
I get eltroxin in Spain because we spend a lot of time here and its cheaper. We have many docs in Ireland who prescribe nature thyroid and Boots get it no problem for around 16 euro a month.
Many are in the same predicament of your friend. Tell her to contact her local MP and I will also give you a link. It is more than scandalous that sick people who cannot live without T3 replacement thyroid hormone have had it removed without a safety net.
Thank you for replying Shaw. Yes, I agree, my friend is so poorly, and no back up for her. I will tell her to write to her MP, thank you for the information.
If she is able to make an appointment and have a face-to-face with him/her the better. People can sense how unwell we are when they actually meet us. Also the MP can contact Lyn Mynott at TUK for confirmation if they need.
