Is it ok to carry on dosing with NDT while having a mitral valve heart condition called Stenosis?

Hi all

I have been on a trial dose of Efra since 21 September 2020 (prescribed by private endo). Todate I have reached 3\4 of 60mcg grain and all seems well.

However, I have recently found out via cardio tests that I have moderate to severe mitral annular calcification MAC. In other words Stenosis so I am quite concerned about increasing NDT.

Endo was aware I have hypertension, high cholesterol (5.2) and pre-diabetic (43) and that I was having cardio tests via a private cardiologist and awaiting results. I now have the results....mitral valve Stenosis, also have an appointment with cardiologist next Monday to discuss cardio findings and where I go from there. Also intend to ask him if it is ok to carry on dosing with NDT due to the T3.

My biggest concern is being told I have to stop dosing with NDT. Before having cardio tests results, cardiologist did say (first consult) he would write a letter to my NHS endo (if I wished) informing him that he saw no reason why I should not be prescribed T3!!!I Of course I opted to for private endo.

In all honesty I am holding back contacting endocrinologist, to inform of cardio test results, dreading he will tell me to stop taking NDT.

Eventually I will inform him but in the meantime I pose this question: Is there anyone on this site who has a similar heart condition to mine and dosed with NDT?I

Would also appreciate links to relevant research papers.

Thyroidectomy carried out 1992.

Sorry for long post.

Have a reading day. Thank you

Hi Dizzy. You may find the articles on thyroidpatients.ca helpful. Too much T3 can be stressful on the heart although some are able to tolerate it quite well. It really varies from individual to individual.

Sorry was quite busy today. Give me a few more days. In the meantime, I find this medical paper to be informative: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Hi purpanda sincere thank you for time and effort you have put into looking for articles to help me regarding my initial post. Pleased to say you can give up the search now as I went to see my cardiologist yesterday, amongst other things, he reassured me that it was fine for me to use NDT with heart problem I have. Phew what a relief....!! Thank God for that.....so grateful for your support.

Have a prosperous day and thanks again. You a treasure.
