B12 results

Hello. I have just tested my B12 and the results were surprisingly low as I have been supplementing with a B complex for a year now. Active B12 148pmol/L with range 118-701pmol/L.. These were done by Thriva. I now have ordered a sublingual complex with 2000ug of B12. How much should I be taking to get it back up again?

Active B12 148pmol/L with range 118-701pmol/L..

That is not an Active B12 range, that is the range for Serum Total B12 which is a different test.

The Active B12 test with Thriva has a range of 37.5-188 and their Total B12 test has a range of 300-569 which you can see from the photo of a member's results in this post:

Perhaps you can edit your opening post and include the photo of your results so that we can point out where you have misunderstood this. You can edit your post by clicking on MORE then EDIT then ADD A PHOTO. upload your picture then click EDIT RESPONSE.

If 148 is your Active B12 result it is very good and you don't need to supplement. If it is your Total B12 result it is very poor, you need to stop supplementing altogether and you need testing for B12 deficiency/Pernicious Anaemia.

Oh my word! I was comparing their results with my previous result from my gp, range being what you said d they were. I'm quite relieved in a way that B12 is good but it doesn't explain why I have the symptoms of a deficiency. Sore mouth, vertigo, weakness, muscle pain, pale skin. I'm starting to think my iron is low. My test for iron with Thriva was not conclusive as they said my cells burst. So have to do them again. What a waste of money.

As the test failed, do they send you a new kit free of charge?

What is included with their iron test (I can't get my head around their website, they don't do a list of their tests like Medichecks do)?

Have you had Vit D tested? Muscle aches and pains can be low Vit D.

They didn't offer a free kit, in fact they didn't say anything about a retest. Very strange. My vit D is optimal, at 92. My ferritin was high again as it has always been at 266ug/L range 44-150.

So what else is included in their iron test besides Ferritin?

TIBC, Iron, transferrin sat were all useless as the sample haemolysed. Liver function were all normal.

I know that both Blue Horizon and Medichecks have sent out free second kits when samples are haemolysed and some tests weren't possible. It might be worth asking Thriva if they will send you a new kit. One might expect ferritin to be low if iron deficient so it's important to get the other tests done to see if anything is awry.

Thank you. I will question them about a new test kit. X

High ferritin may be an indication of haemochromatosis. It may be advisable to get that checked out.

I will thank you. In all the tests for ferritin it's always been way above the range but I believe this can be due to inflammation, but my inflammation markers are well in range.

Not what you're looking for?
