B12 supplementation query

My active B12 level in 2022 was 66.1 pmol/L and following advice on our wonderful forum I began taking Thorne basic B complex. This raised my levels to 78.6 pmol/L in 2023. This year my B12 level is 76.3 pmol/L. So it hasn't continued to increase to the recommended 100 pmol/L.

For the past ten days I have been taking sublingual B12. My query is this ...... do I carry on taking just the B12 until the bottle is empty? Do I stop the B12 now and resume my B complex (which is the Igennus brand) or do I do a mix. Take the sublingual B12 once a week and B complex for the other six days?

Thank you.

Optimal active B12 needs to be over 75, not 100.

You would be fine to continue the Thorne Basic B and perhaps add in the sublingual B12 3 or 4 times a week.

A B complex is important as it also contains folate.

How are your other vitamin levels?

Thank you for your reply Jaydee. I’ve got my wires crossed then thinking b12 needed to be 100 ! Though you probably need to check!

Other vitamins are good, thanks to the advice given here:

Ferritin 78.30 ug/L (30-332)

Folate 35.6 nmol/L (>7)

Vitamin D 103 nmol/L

My viamin D is usually a little higher than this so in May with all the horrible weather we were getting I did up my dose. Now the sun is out so I shall see how long the sunshine lasts before lowering the dose.

Even if you were outside all day every day the British sunshine is unlikely to raise your vit D level by much at all.

103 for vit D is good.

Other vitamins look good too, well done.

Just to be clear - would I still take the b-complex on the days I took the sublingual b12? Or would the sublingual b12 be taken instead of the b-complex on those days ?

You would effectively be topping up with the B12 sublingual because a little extra would be good.

So take B complex every day then in addition take B12 sublingual every other day.
