Hello

I’m currently on 150mcg of Levothyroxine this is my recent blood test I did via Medichecks

What are people’s thoughts? I do get heart palpitations - currently working with a functional medicine nutritionist on supporting my gut health.

Be great to hear what you all think? Worried about the CRP HS thank you

My CRP used to be as high but it has now gone down to about 5. This usually means there is some kind of inflammation in your body. I have no idea why mine has gone lower except that I am in remission at the moment from Graves'

How do you feel at the moment? My T4 is also high at 22.7 but I feel well so I must need to it to be that high. Just to add I am not taking anything except vitamin D spray. Just to add I have palps when I feel stressed or if I am rushing around which I have been today.

I have palps if I’m just sitting on the sofa!

Me too ... I usually try to breathe through them. When the weather was very hot a couple of weeks ago I was having them every hour.

Active B12 is too low. Active B12 below 70 suggests testing for B12 deficiency according to Viapath at St Thomas' Hospital:

viapath.co.uk/our-tests/act...

Reference range:>70. *Between 25-70 referred for MMA

Do you have any signs of B12 deficiency – check here:

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

b12d.org/submit/document?id=46

If you do then list them to discuss with your GP and ask for testing for B12 deficiency and Pernicious Anaemia. Do not take any B12 supplements or folic acid/folate/B Complex supplements before further testing of B12 as this will mask signs of B12 deficiency and skew results.

Shame you didn't do the ULTRAVIT WITH FOLATE test as B12 and folate work together so testing folate is important.

Vit D could be higher. The Vit D Council recommends a level of 125nmol/L and the Vit D Society recommends a level of 100-150nmol/L.

Your T4 to T3 conversion is poor. You were asking about how to get a private prescription for T3 last year, didn't you do anything about this?

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

Have you ever had ultrasound scan of thyroid?

B12 might be too low

When was folate last tested?

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Do you supplement vitamin D

Vitamin K2 mk7

Selenium

Magnesium

Have you ever tried strictly gluten free diet ?

Your conversion rate is poor....might want to trial reducing levothyroxine slightly and add small doses of T3 alongside levothyroxine

Thank you - yes I think I might reduce levo and I have a call with an Endo at Cov Uni Hosptial next week a different CCG. I’ve tried to ask for T3 he said my GP would have to prescribe it - she’s Solihull CCG and she says she can’t - so what should I do? Should I say to my Endo I’m symptomatic send my results and say I have a poor conversion and ask how he can give me T3?

NHS Endo MUST prescribe T3 initially via hospital pharmacy...for 3-6 month trial

Assuming trial goes well, endo writes to GP to formally request they take over care (and cost of prescription) with annual review back with endo

GP can not initiate T3

NHS England Liothyronine guidelines July 2019 - details all this here

Note that it says test should be in morning BEFORE taking Levo thyroxine

Also to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Thank you I have stopped taking lots of supplements but my nutritionist has said as follows

I have h pylori in my gut so taking couple of supplements for that

A thyroid support supplement I’m not taking which I will but worried it will make me over active

I wasn’t able to get a private prescription for T3 kept hitting walls - any ideas on getting this please?

I have magnesium glycinate not taking it

I have b12 patches not taking them

I do take a combined Vit D K2 A & E

What can I do about poor conversion thank you

A thyroid support supplement I’m not taking which I will but worried it will make me over active

That is something you really should not take. Avoid all supplements that claim to 'support' the thyroid like the plague. They usually contain iodine and other substances you just should not be taking. And, worst thing is, they will not 'support' your thyroid - that is a huge trap for the unwary! At best they will stimulate your thyroid, which is not the same thing, and not a good thing to do. But they certainly will not help your thyroid in any way.

Multi-type supplements like this are never a good idea and should be avoided. Much better to get tested for individual nutrients and just take what you need. Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested?

Thank you if you look at the screen shot above you can see what’s been tested.

Thank you

Yes, of course. And, I see you have an excellent response from SeasideSusie on that subject. :)

Also do I have Hashimoto?

greygoose profile image

Your antibodies are negative for Hashi's. But, that doesn't mean you don't have it. Antibodies fluctuate so on a future test, could be high. And, even if they are never high, you could still have it, because the antibodies are not the disease.
