New Medichecks results

Good afternoon I had my finger prick blood done by Medichecks and omitted my Thyroxine 24hrs before but forgot about my vitamin D! I was on a thread about two weeks ago about night sweats! My last TSH done by the GP in Nov was 0.11 and I did feel better and less lethargic. My dose currently is 75mcgs a day.

Enclosed are my new results:

Many thanks 🥰

FT4: 14.5 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 only 25.00% through range

FT3: 5.04 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 52.43% through range

Request dose increase in levothyroxine to 87.5mcg (half 25mcg tablet extra)

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Folate, B12 and vitamin D and ferritin all could be better

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

Are you currently taking any B vitamin supplements

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet to help improve ferritin

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

Hi and thank you was going to ask is there optimum levels for B12? 25 mcg is mercury pharma/ 50mcgs is accord.

Vit D is 25 ug! No vit B a present as need to read info after last sweating post . I am also vegetarian ❤️

Vitamin D at 25ug is only 1000iu

Suggest you increase to 2000iu

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7. One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, we frequently need higher dose than average when hypothyroid

How long have you been vegetarian

Virtually All vegetarians need to supplement B12

academic.oup.com/nutritionr...

The present review of the literature regarding B12 status among vegetarians shows that the rates of B12 depletion and deficiency are high. It is, therefore, recommended that health professionals alert vegetarians about the risk of developing subnormal B12 status. Vegetarians should also take preventive measures to ensure adequate intake of this vitamin, including the regular intake of B12 supplements to prevent deficiency. Considering the low absorption rate of B12 from supplements, a dose of at least 250 μg should be ingested for the best results.3

Very difficult to maintain good iron/ferritin on plant based diet

You might want to do full iron panel test for anaemia

Ferritin can be high and iron low

omitted my Thyroxine 24hrs before but forgot about my vitamin D!

Do you mean you took your Vit D before the test on the day?

It wont make a difference to your thyroid results, it might make a slight difference to your Vit D result, it's advised to keep on taking it up to and including the day before but take after the test on the day. However, your Vit D could do with improving but as summer is almost on top of us you might be able to make Vit D naturally from the sun so it may improve anyway.

Presumably you are no longer on folic acid prescription

To improve low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and separate B12

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months.

once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

As vegetarian you may need to carry on indefinitely with separate B12…..perhaps everyday….perhaps a few times a week
