Medichecks but not Inuvi lab

Hello, I was wondering how you can book a blood test with Medichecks and request that they use any lab but Inuvi? I have read on their website that they use a few labs, and only one of them is Inuvi.

I am asking on behalf of my mum who is looking to begin treatment with a dr who won't accept Inuvi results.

Many thanks for any advice.

my GP accepted Monitor my Health results some time ago as they are an NHS lab in Devon.

They recently saw and didn’t comment on Randox, but have previously dismissed all private testing. They do often say, we’ll run that again, so we can put it on the system.

tinkerbell22,

I'd contact Medichecks directly. I don't think anyone else can tell you with certainty.

If they tell you how, but nonetheless use Inuvi for your test, you have a basis for complaint.

tinkerbell22, Did the doctor say why they won't accept results from Inuvi?

Looking at the Inuvi website, I can't see any mention of NHS approval, so am thinking this might be the reason.

As helvella says, best to get in touch with Medichecks themselves, as only they can tell you whether they will agree to your request not to use a specific lab.

Thank you Regenallotment, Helvella and RedApple! The dr my mum is hoping to see is a private gp and a nutritionist, functional medicine approach who prescribes armour. He prefers Randox for blood tests but won't accept a couple of places, one of which is Inuvi labs via Medichecks. No idea why! Though I have seen mention on here of people getting different ranges for test results from certain labs (I think via Medichecks) so perhaps this is why, perhaps he prefers not to have to recalculate results to match his usual reference ranges he works with. I have no idea, just my thoughts. Or perhaps its some kind of commission rivalry for him, again no idea, just guessing.

My mum has incredible difficulty doing pinprick bloodtests because of her age, pain levels constantly and terrible thyroid symptoms. So she's hoping to find a blood test place that does tests for the cheaper pricing with a home nurse, they have very little money spare. She finds it also incredibly difficult to leave the house so going to a test centre/hospital is mostly impossible for her.

Randox I think offer a home visit but pump up the price of the test kit when its blood draw compared to pinprick test plus home visit fee on top!

Medichecks seem cheaper for home visit blood draw all round but there's this Inuvi lab problem. My dad called Medichecks for my mum (she struggles on the phone too). Medichecks said there's no way to request a particular lab and they only use Inuvi. But we're wondering if the admin person on the phone hadn't a clue as Medichecks website says they use three labs, not just Inuvi! Plus you know sometimes you talk to one person who has no idea and another person who does and can give you the info you need.

Also I had a memory of someone on this group here requesting a certain lab from Medichecks because of an issue with reference ranges (maybe for a vitamin, maybe a vitamin B) but I can't remember fully so thought I'd ask.

Hope this clarifies a bit. Any more advice?

Thank you ☺️

Some time ago there were lots of questions over their ranges for ferritin - and Medichecks did, to their credit, do some work to make them more consistent and sensible.

Ahaa I think that's what I'm remembering, thank you! This could be why the dr refuses to use them even if based on old info, as he definitely works with vitamins for thyroid health.Thank you for confirming that memory

I’d be tempted to challenge this private doc. The machine produces a result and has a reference interval in order to interpret that.

It’s not rocket science. The doc could also use one of the thyroid calculators to show % through range.

This is one thyroid.dopiaza.org/

Here is another thyroid.chingkerrs.online/

It’s super easy to pop in the numbers.

I’d suggest that for the fee your Mum is paying they should be making things as easy for her as possible and putting a shift in themselves to earn their fee!

We could indeed ask why they refuse this lab Regenallotment. They also refuse Genova Diagnostics I think they're called. Again no idea why. They certainly have been forward thinking in a lot of ways to make life easier for their patients and this extra would be really helpful too

Just another thought, how do you even know which lab Medichecks have used? I just checked some of my old results from them but can't see a lab mentioned.

If you click on the printable results report it says top right

Ahaaa Thank you TiggerMe! Found it!So I've two tests in the past from Medichecks, a year or so ago. And both show Inuvi as the lab used. So perhaps it's a stretch to get them to use somewhere else if that's their standard go-to.

I've just looked back through my tests with them (though not used them since mid 2023) only Female hormone or Ultimate Performance and they were all done by Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics Ltd or The Doctors Lab

Had a look at my sisters results (she is just down the road) hers are all thyroid tests and all done by Inuvi 🤷‍♀️

Oh wow thank you for checking TiggerMe! That's really lovely of you and your sister! My tests were female hormone ones which included basic thyroid tests, Inuvi.

So I guess they Can do it elsewhere...

Interesting! Their website says so too.

Looks like anything thyroid means Inuvi

You can ring Medichecks as soon as you place the order and ask them not to use that lab. I flirted with using a private doc for my ndt (rather than buying it myself) and he asked specifically for Doctors Laboratory, and that’s what Medichecks told me to do. Just make sure you ring up as soon as you place the order.

I think I go to the same thyroid doctor as you mentioned. As he won’t accept inuvi or a couple of other Labs I use Blue Horizon for basic thyroid tests but will use Medichecks if I need more than just thyroid test results eg well woman test. Then I ring them to check and they make a note there & then not to use Inuvi. It’s always worked to date. They have always used Eurofins Diagnostics for these.
