TSH Results/175mg Levothyroxine

Hi All

I have just received my recent Thyroid Function Blood test results from last week blood draw (Fasted/Early morning blood test:-

TSH 0.02

T4 19.1

FT3 5.7

Vit D 42.4

My GP is calling me on Wednesday to discuss the above blood results. I suspect he will try to reduce my Levothyroxine which is currently at 175mg. I have read the above posts about TSH is not a Thyroid hormone, it rises if you are not producing sufficient T3 (even though my FT3 is 5.7,( FT3 should be above 5.5 which it now is) now due to increase of Levothyroxine from 150mg to 175mg (with advice from Thyroid UK forum). My FT3 was 4.2 on 150mg of Levothyroxine, so it as increased quite significantly since the 0.25mg dose of Levothyroxine increase. I am 46 year old female, and take antidepressants for depression and anxiety (Effexor), and still currently weigh 14 stone, which I am struggling to lose mainly in the tummy area, due to fatigue/ sugar cravings (Before been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism my weight was between 10 to 10.5 stone prior to commencing Levothyroxine.

Any advice greatly appreciated in preparation for my GP telephone appointment on Wednesday.

Presumably the units on vitamin D is nmol?

42nmol is far too low

GP should prescribe 1600iu everyday for 6 months....though you are likely better off self supplementing at higher rate

Vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

Essential to test B12, folate and ferritin too

When were these last tested

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

Suggest you insist on staying on current dose while improving low vitamin levels...retest Thyroid in another 6-8 weeks

Do you have Hashimoto’s?

Diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Can you add ranges on Ft4 and Ft3 results....

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

No don't have Hashimotos. Tried Gluten Free diet in the past and no improvement, also had celiac test which was negative. Ranges of FT4 is (11.0-26) and FT4 (3.1-6.8) both pmol.

Thank you.

So nether Ft4 or Ft3 are above range

So your not over medicated

Come back with new post once you get folate, ferritin and B12 results and ranges
