Thyroid or something else?

New here, permanently tired, 59, putting on weight, reasonably healthy diet and lifestyle, on hrt, no other medication.

Nhs results FT4 13.6 (9-22), TSH 1.8 (0.1-4.0). They wouldn't do FT3 or antibodies. Foliate 6.3 (more than 4), ferratin 33 (10-291). Test at 11am after breakfast (I didn't know any better). Other tests too, all normal range, no vit D or B12.

Do I have a possible thyroid problem or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Is it worthwhile getting a private test? Which is a good one? To include what? Do I need to stop hrt (oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone) before it?

Yes definitely

Ft4 is low

Folate and ferritin low and probably causing symptoms of their own

Essential to test vitamin D and B12

Medichecks has offer on today at £79

Come back with new post once you get results

Meanwhile look at improving low ferritin levels by increasing iron rich foods in diet... liver or liver pate once a week. Daily vitamin c helps improve iron absorption

Your Ferritin needs to be higher. When mine was low I ate pate twice a week and took spatone.

Given that I eat meat every day does low ferratin indicate a problem with absorption? Or is it something that doesn't matter as long I can increase it? What is a good level?
