New results advice

These are my new thyroid results. I’m on 75mcg thyroxine (teva). I have not been taking T3 as it made me feel no different and my results kept being all over the place. Low tsh which docs didn’t like 🥴 my vit D was 115 nmol and my cholesterol was 6.3 which definitely has to be sorted out ☹️

If the T3 didn't make you feel any better, then you weren't taking enough of it. As for the suppressed TSH not pleasing your doctors, do you want to get well or do you want to keep your doctors happy? Because you dan't do both.

How long have you been on 75 mcg Teva? Because you're still under-medicated. Your FT4 isn't even mid-range.

my cholesterol was 6.3 which definitely has to be sorted out

Why? Cholesterol isn't going to do you any harm. It doesn't cause heart attacks or strokes, as Big Pharma would have you believe. High cholesterol is a symptom, not a disease. It's high because your FT3 is so low. Raise the FT3 and the cholesterol will decrease. :)

Where do I start? On ratios etc x

I don't understand the question. Where do you start what? It's nothing to do with ratios. You need what you need, and if you need high FT3 and low FT4, so be it. A ratio won't make you well.

Ok. I feel you’re being quite shirty. I’m just after a bit of advice. You obviously know your stuff but I don’t no listen to my GP and you say it’s wrong but I ask you and say you don’t understand 🤷🏽‍♀️

Well, I'm sorry, I wasn't being shirty, I didn't understand the question. I didn't know you were talking about self-treating. I didn't know you already had the T3. Why would I say I didn't understand if I did? That wouldn't make any sense.

I was getting hot sweats and palpitations on t3 I was only on 12.5 mcg x

They could just as easily be under-medication symptoms. And, I expect they were, if you were only on 12.5 mcg. That's a tiny dose.

Results 5/6/20: tsh 0.04 T4 18.1 I was on 100mcg thyroxine and 12.5 t3

Results 18/6/20: tsh 0.08 t4 23.5 on 100mcg thyroxine and no T3 All these were done at GP so no t3 tested. The latest results were from monitor my health and done on Wednesday taking 74mcg thyroxine and no t3 x

So, why was your levo put down to 75? You're under-medicated on 75 mcg.

It was lower when you were taking T3, because that's what T3 does. But, now that you've had your FT3 tested, you know you're a poor converter and you're under-medicated. First step should be to get your dose put back to 100 mcg. Did you feel well on 100 mcg?

I’ve just felt generally unwell but GP said try go down to 75mcg . Like I said I stopped t3 because I felt no different (a little worse with palps etc). I’m willing to try again but just don’t know where to start 🤷🏽‍♀️I’ve got a supply of 25 mg t3 what I got of holiday last year

Ah, ok, I see. So, your main problem is your doctor!

As I said, forget ratios. They have nothing to do with hypothyroidism. They are for euthyroid people.

You need to follow the rules for hormones: start low and increase slowly.

For T3 that means starting at 6.5 mcg daily, leave your levo where it is, you don't need to reduce it further.

Increase by 6.5 mcg every two weeks until you get to 25 mcg. Then, hold for six weeks are see how you feel, and retest to see where you are. :)

Can I just ask why bloods were done 13 days apart?

Tinacros profile image
Tinacros in reply toGoldengirl01

Two different GPs, I didn’t really understand that myself. The first one was a thyroid check and the second was just a full blood count but he included thyroid too. All appts were over the phone so I was shocked when I saw the thyroid as well on the results app x

You are going to have to go this alone because your TSH isn't responding well to such a low T3, it should be higher. Your doctor is obsessed with TSH so thinks you are 'fine' and will freak out if you get a TSH of 0.001, but from your point of view of needing to feel well again you need that FT3 number to be higher. You are barely in range. But because you are in range they won't do anything. I'm in just the same position as you.
