Does anyone have recommendations for a "dummies guide to hypothyroidism" style book. Recently diagnosed and feeling lost

This is the one that got me started :

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...

amazon.co.uk/Your-Thyroid-H...

Same book - first one is Kindle, the second one is paperback.

Agree with humanbean, that was my first book too!

Dr Peatfield's book was the first I read too. I think today I would recommend The Thyroid Patient's Manual, by Paul Robinson, as probably the best to start. It's up to date with research and very comprehensive.

This is the book I read when first diagnosed, it made me feel like a kindly friend was holding my hand .... Dr Izabella Wentz “Hashimoto’s Protocol’” and the guidance in it really helped me too. I would thoroughly recommend it if you have raised antibodies indicating autoimmune thyroid disease (also known as Hashimoto’s)

Hi there - I didn't know what was wrong with me - I had been diagnosed with Lupus but there was something else going on too................I had over 100 serious symptoms as listed on the Thyroid UK site and was in a hell of a state - I read this book and tears rolled down my face as I realised what it was - then the battle commenced. Wonderful book I have bought and given it to all sorts of medical people after my consultant - in the hope they might take up the banner for us neglected thyroid patients - but nothing much has changed in 25 years - I am so sorry to say.

Good luck and enjoy the read.

The Riddle of Illness by Stephen Langer - goes through every symptom and explains the reason why - this is the book I gave to my Lupus Consultant who read it and agreed with me that I had a thyroid issue - and then we had the fight for 13 years to get help because my blood tests were normal and they would not treat the symptoms.

This one looks interesting and I hadn't previously heard of it - thank you. Sounds a bit like one of my main go-to books 'Why do I still have thyroid symptoms' by Datis Kharrazian. Cheers

While Dr Peatfield's book is good and was useful (and I was lucky enough to have an appointment with him), I wish I had started with Datis Kharrazian' s 'Why do I still have thyroid symptoms...' which has a lot of good information on factors influencing your thyroid function which may need addressing. Helpful for a bigger picture, especially for those of us with autoimmune issues (thyroid and others). Best wishes

Check your library when it reopens (soon hopefully) as I was able to order Dr Peatfield's book there.
