Hi. Could anyone help please, Im trying to find out if my mild anxiety is caused by my thyroid. Below are the past 3 years results from my GP. 2017 and 2018 only have results for TSH, is this normal? 2019 has TSH and T4
My dose of levothyroxine has been the same 125mcg throughout these years, does this seem ok as TSH dropped to 0.39 in 2019? I’m going to get a full check with vitamins but in the meantime I’d be grateful for any opinions on these results.
2017 TSH 1.0 mlU/L (0.27-4.2) no T4 report
2018 TSH 0.89 mlU/L (0.27-4.2) no T4 report
2019 TSH 0.39 mlU/L (0.27-4.2)
2019 T4 25.1 pmol/L (12-22)
Thank you x

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate on levothyroxine
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Do you have Hashimoto’s
Have you ever had thyroid antibodies tested
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
Hi, I’m not taking any vitamins and was never told to fast before thyroid tests so I possibly could have had a coffee with or without breakfast. I have no idea if the brand of levothyroxine has always been the same . Ive had 100% confidence in the GP until I did a search for slow heart rate and under active thyroid which brought up anxiety too, both of which I have. Resting heart rate 51/52 while asleep it’s around 46/48 from my Fitbit.
Low vitamin levels can cause anxiety. I would follow Slowdragon's advice on testing so you can get to the bottom of the problem. Essential to test vit D, ferritin, folate and vit B12.
