Hi, I’ve just had my results and have been asked to contact my doctor. I’ve been having symptoms for a few years now and every time I’ve been seen by my doctor he’s said ‘anxiety’. Below are my results from Thriva and 2018 and 2019 from GP. Any comments will be great thank you x

2018 TSH 0.89 mlU/L (0.27-4.2)

2019 see photo on next post

Thriva see photo

Well both 2019 and 2018 results are a long time ago

These results show low vitamin D

Rather low folate

No B12 or thyroid antibodies results

Have you been supplementing vitamin D since this test

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

Thank you slow dragon. I’m under active and take 125mcg daily. The reason I included 2018 and 2019 is because I’ve been feeling rubbish for years and after numerous visits to doctors I was NEVER tested for my thyroid or vitamins!

Yes I took my blood after fasting and 24 hours after last dose of levothyroxine.

Have Thriva sent another kit

If not, chase them up

Don’t start any B vitamins until had B12 tested

Sorry misunderstood...these Thriva results have just arrived

Thriva need to send new kit for repeating B12 and antibodies tests

Hi SlowDragon

I’ve been trying to resolve my missing tests with Thriva, they are not being helpful and have suggested I purchase another full thyroid test £79!!!!!

That’s not acceptable

Push back and moan at them

Thanks again SlowDragon. I’m trying my best to get a result from them but they’re not budging at all. They’ve asked me to disclose who I’ve been speaking to on here .... I haven’t!

They’re not going to retest the missing results. I’ve received a detailed email from them which I’d like you to see. Can I post it on here?

Perhaps better by private message

I will pm you now

Was the test tube not filled up with enough blood?

Molly139 profile image
Molly139 in reply to SlowDragon

Yes It was full. I followed all the instructions. I watched the video 3 times prior to doing the test. My blood flowed perfect. I wouldn’t be making this much fuss but my results were worrying to me and I feel B12 is required

Keep me posted how you get on with Thriva

Hi SlowDragon, after far too many emails back and forth to Thriva, they are now sending me a new kit 👏 Thriva have asked could I let them know who I have been discussing this with on here, do I let them know? I don’t want to break any confidentiality.

Your advice and knowledge has been amazing, my doctor has now told me to reduce from 125mcg to 100mcg straight away!!!

Low vitamin D obviously needs improving and GP should prescribe 1600iu everyday for 6 months

But you are likely better off just self supplementing

Vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

But, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, on levothyroxine we frequently need higher dose than average
