I ran out of medication and have gone a week without my NDT (100mcg t4 and 26mcg t3), ive completely ballooned in just a week, literally feel like ive gained almost a stone in a matter of days. My medication arrives on Tuesday. Has anyone else ever has this and when you get back on your meds again how long does it take for your weight to fall off again? Hoping it will rectify itself within a few days of me getting back on my medication, but anyone who has had this please reassure me because i am so stressed! Is it water retention? Or actual fat?

I have some leftover levothyroxine and t3 pills , should i take them in the interim?

It sounds like water retention to me because your metabolism has slowed down without your NDT. Hopefully once you start taking it again this will resolve. You could try taking some Levo in the meantime but I don't think it will make much of a difference because is takes a while to get into your cells. How are you feeling?

Physically I feel absolutely fine! Dont feel any more tired or lethargic, still have energy. Ok i mean hooooopefully its water retention, thank you so much for asking

If you can hang until your medication arrives that might be better because I don't think swapping to something different in the meantime will be that helpful.

It’s water your not gaining fat in a week.

I don't know about NDT. I'm on T3 and T4 meds, and after a mix-up earlier this year my lio was un-prescribed. In 2 weeks just on levo I put on 2 kg (otherwise my weight is very stable). My lio was re-prescribed and after 2 weeks I had taken off that extra 2 kg. So guessing water/mucin not actual fat :)

It has to be water-weight to go on that quickly. You cannot put on a stone of fat in just one week. It doesn't happen that quickly. But, you can retain a lot of water in one week. So, you don't have to go on a diet - in fact, best not to diet, because that could make you more hypo! :)

Thank you, yes I hope so, it wont really muck me up to have had a week off meds will it?

I shouldn't think so, no. You might feel a bit off for a while, but nothing serious. :)

Yes I have experienced this - I reduced T3 dose & immediately put on approx 7lb in a wk.

What happened when you got back on the right dose? How long did it take to rectify?

Only a few weeks into sorting out - but now having a panic as the Dr who prescribed the T3 has just died suddenly - I think of Covid.

Am low on supply of T3 & need a private prescription ASAP otherwise my son & I will be really unwell & weight will pile on if I run out & can't obtain quickly.

I am however working on diet - I have been Wholefood Plant Based for over a yr now & just further progressing to Starch based version of that. ( had been vegetarian for 40 yrs)

drmcdougall.com/ - I'm super impressed with what I have read thus far & whilst I had heard of him before - I hadn't read up on exactly what he promoted beyond Plant based.

I am finding this woman's weight loss & food video's inspiring - she follows Dr McDougalls method youtube.com/watch?v=n11YZXe...

We have been shielding since 1st March - so am hoping when I start walking again that weight will fall off.

Can you DM me where you are getting T3 from please
