Can I get a Active B12 test done on the NHS.?I have been told I will have to have it done privately

My endo did it for me last time I saw him ... after my pharmacist had recommended it (before I found this forum) and a slightly bizarre exchange with the endo when he told me it was only relevant if you're hypo and I had to point out that that was my diagnosis and the reason I was seeing him ...

Actually it was my Endo that suggested it,but hes private really dont know why he couldn't have arranged it,but there you go.Thanks for the reply.

Use to only be available on NHS if went to St Thomas’s in London

They now offer postal testing kit includes MMA and homocysteine

The Active B12 test tells you the amount of B12 that is available to be transferred into the cells where it is needed. It does not indicate B12 in the cells.

With the routine NHS test - both bound and unbound B12 is measured. Testing Homocysteine and MMA and showing raised levels may indicate Low B12 in the cells.
