Thoughts on latest Labs?

Hello everyone!

Can you please share your thoughts on the following Labs? They seem strange as they are all on the lower end and this shouldn't be the case. I would assume that they should be the exact opposite i.e. low Tsh-high t3, or high tsh-low t3. But they are all low :

Tsh 0,472, range: 0,4 - 4,5

Ft3 0,64, range: 0,6 - 1,52

Ft4 0,82, range: 0,7 - 1,5

I am with hashimoto taking t4 only. The rest of the vitamin tests are normal except vitamin D.

They have tested the Total T3 instead of the Free T3 - same for T4.

Do you have results for your 'normal' vitamins and minerals ?

What Levo dose are you on ? Which supps are you taking ?

Thanks for your quick reply! I do have results but they are not the latest as above.

B12 381 range,: 197-770

Magnesium: 1,8 range: 1,6 - 2,6

Folate: 6,75 range: 3,89 - 26,8

Vit D: 21 range: 30 - 100

Ferretin: 173 range: 30 - 400

I am on 112 mcg of T4. No other supplements in general though from time to time I use some B complex, zinc and vitamin D. But not steadily and very scarcely.

Total t3 and total t4? Are you sure? They mention ft3 and ft4 on the results. Not going back to this laboratory if that's the case.

Vitamin D is deficient

Deficient is under 25nmol and requires loading dose

Loading dose vitamin D is 300,000iu over 6-8 weeks.thats typically 5000iu per day for 8 weeks or 7000iu per day for 6 weeks. Important to get levels retested at end of prescription

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

Or advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

B12 and folate on the low side. Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Low vitamin D and low B vitamins may be linked as explained here

In YouTube video when Dr Gominak talks about vitamin D levels ...vitamin D at 40ng/ml (USA units) is equal to 100nmol (UK units)

Improving very low vitamin levels may improve TSH levels

TSH is often unreliable with Hashimoto’s

Are the results for T4 and T3 - Free or Total ?

Hashimoto123 profile image
Hashimoto123 in reply to Marz

The results are listed as ft3 and ft4 - free for both. But I am not sure since it is a new laboratory next to my home so I am not sure if it can be trusted.

Thanks a lot for your tons of info! So you think that a vitamin deficiency may cause such erratic results? Good to know!
