Wishing everyone good health in these trying times. I received new results today. Tsh: 0.01, (0.32-4.00), FT4: 14 (9-19), Ft3: 5.8 (2.6-5.8). I’m presently taking 100mcg Synthroid, 10 mcg Cytomel. I’m thinking of reducing Cytomel to 7.5 and keeping synthroid as is. All vitamins are optimal. I’m feeling good, but blood pressure is up, irritable, having occasional headaches, itchy nose and face. Or should I decrease to 5mcg. I’m 65 years old and my Endo thinks my Ft3 is too high. Strange enough, I have put in 8lbs in past mont kidney function also decreased in the past 6-8 weeks.
Your advice much appreciated,
Hope everyone is practicing social distance and taking care of yourselves.

It's possible that your FT3 is too high for you. You'll only know if you try reducing it and see what happens. But, you shouldn't reduce by more than 2.5 mcg at a time. It's so easy to miss your sweet spot if you reduce by too much at once.
Thanks greygoose! I appreciate your response. I will follow your suggestions and decrease T3 slowly. I reduced by 5mcg this morning, so should I take the extra 2.5 later today. I was waiting for a response but with the time difference it didn’t come fast enough. I’m in Canada.
Hope you’re staying safe in these difficult times.
Yes, sorry, got a bit confused, there. And, to be honest, I'm still confused. If you reduced by 5 mcg, then that means you took 5 mcg. Where does the 2.5 come in?
Sorry to be a bother, you suggested reducing by 2.5 initially, but I reduced by 5. I was taking 100+10, so I took 100+5 this morning .As per your suggestion, I should have taken 100+7.5, that leaves me 2.5 short. Should I just leave it at that and see how I feel, or add the 2.5 with tomorrow morning ‘s dose. Hope that explains it better.
Yes, thank you. Being a bit thick today! lol Well, as you've already reduced by 5, leave it at that and see how you feel. You can always add in another 2.5 mcg later if you feel the need. It's all trial and error, anyway.
I have gained weight on T3, too. It really is about finding that sweet spot which is very hard to do, unfortunately.
Taking too little or too much T3 can both cause weight gain. Too little is not enough to help your thyroid gland function optimally which slows down your metabolism and digestion and too much can, apparently, cause or spike insulin resistance. Insulin resistance, in turn, can cause weight gain and decreased kidney function. I am actually insulin resistant so yeah...I know about the easily gaining weight on T3 part only too well 😄.
Hi, thank you for your response. Very interesting thought. Makes a lot of sense considering my kidney function has decreased and I’m unable to loose weight while eating very healthy. I will monitor while I carefully reduce my T3.
